The new engines

I have been seeing a couple of the new Bonnies running around and I have to say they do look good from a distance. I really like the look of the new primary covers and the new stator covers. When one drives by you don't really see that fugly radiator.

Eeh! I think it looks like a Honda!!!

(...my buddy with two dozen classic bikes in CA bought a new T120 a month or so ago and he LOVES it...says the boys in Hinckley couldn't have done a better job at making it look like his 1969 Bonnie)

Well Ryk, seein' as how I converted my BA from a cruiser into more a standard machine a few years back by moving those forward foot controls back(just got tired of not only sitting on my tailbone, but just never felt "one with the machine" while riding the twisties at any fast pace)...NOT ME!!!!

(...guess I figured out I just wasn't the "Cruiser kind'a guy"...but then again MY knees still work pretty damn well for a 64 year old fart...you should see me run down all those shots on the tennis court...yep, I consistently amaze all the guys out there...yep, as Walter Brennan used to say on that old western TV series The Sons of Will Sonnet: "No brag, just fact!")

You assume too much, and you need to move it to the proper thread if you want to banter on. You may assume we can't wait to hear your POV there, but then maybe not. Only one way to find out.

But hey, let's remember here that it was YOU who first made mention of guys with big egos...like ME!!!

(...but yeah, let's get back to how THESE NEW TRIUMPHS LOOK LIKE TRIUMPHS AND NOT HONDAS, and something the OP of this thread HAS SEEMED TO FINALLY FIGURE OUT!!!!)

Re: The new engines

I was at my local dealer today,Detroit Triumph in Utica Michigan. I went to check out the new models and believe you me I wasn't let down. They had several Street Twins,2 T120's,2 Thruxtons and two Thruxton R's. These are some mighty fine bikes!! I really think these bikes will do very well in the market. P.S. you have to look for the rad, it does not jump out at you at all.

I talked to a dealer in Thailand about a week ago and he said[FWTW]in 2017 a 1,200cc Cruiser was coming.I don't know how much real information this guy had or if he was just blowing smoke because he knows I want one.

Re: The new engines

The T120 is very much a rider's bike; it rides better than the sum of its parts. That motor...ah, that motor...is just great. And the bike handles super nice. On top of all that, it is very comfortable. I personally would prefer mag wheels, & could do without the steampunk throttle bodies, but hey, its a great bike.

I've ridden both the T120 & the Street Twin, back to back...& hands-down the T120 is the one I would get.

The salesman I spoke to thought they would be the 1200, but then he thought they were double overhead cam until I told him otherwise, still didn't believe me until he looked it up on his computer.

Yeah, that's your average vehicle salesperson alright, Peter. Trust me, it's same over here too! Ask 'em about some technical aspect to the product they're sellin', and they'll have NO freakin' idea at all!!!

And yep, the lads in Hinckley designed the latest Triumph Twin engines using a SINGLE OHC in efforts to keep the engine as low and compact up on top as possible.

(...and yep, they succeeded in making one beautiful engine...THAT NEVER LOOKED LIKE A FREAKIN' HONDA!!!!)

Re: The new engines

Well, seein' as how we seem to be talkin' directly again here Ian...yep, you DID!

Here's your EXACT quote AFTER you saw a spy photo of these bikes just before production began on 'em...

Quote:"As a whole kinds looks like a Honda to me. I would not be a buyer at all. The direction Triumph is going makes HD look like a place I may be shopping for my next bike. Probably not, probably more likely back to old Triumphs."

Your quote was in this thread:
http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...2&fpart=all

And the pre-production models looked almost EXACTLY like what's hittin' the showrooms now!!!

(...and of course because I "challenged" your opinion in my typical smartassed BUT to-the-point manner inclusive of examples in efforts to help you see my point, you took it badly and so we got into ANOTHER one of these little tiffs we've had over these many years)

Well, once again I find it very "funny" that EVERY motorcycle magazine article I've read about these new machines, AND every Joe Blow out there with any knowledge of motorcycles and the history of them I've run across has stated that the people in Hinckley have NEVER before come out with machines, the WHOLE of the machines, that harks back so completely to the Meriden Triumphs of old

(...but then here we go again...sorry I brought it up)

Re: The new engines

Here we go with the insults again, that is why I have not been talking directly with you, when someone disagrees with you you jump right to the insults. I have extensive knowledge of motorcycles and a large collection of Triumphs and used to restore them for people and myself so I might have a little knowledge of what they look like. I know a lot of people who agree with my point of view but in the end it is subjective and I wouldn't insult you by saying it is your knowledge that is lacking.

Re: The new engines

Once AGAIN, there were NO FREAKIN' "INSULTS" IN WHAT I SAID TO YA HERE!!! DID I CALL YOU SOME FREAKIN' NAME OR SOMETHIN'???? NOOOOOO, I DIDN'T!!!!

ALL I pretty much said was that YOUR opinion seems to be in the MINORITY here, THAT'S all, and I gave you examples of WHY that was.

(...and I'd sure like to know who these "a lot of people" are who you say agree with you about this?...'cause while it seems even though this website IS geared to people who like cruisers and wish Triumph would place this new engine in one, almost EVERY post I've read from the guys around here seem to say THEY think these new Triumphs not ONLY look GREAT, but "look like a Triumph" TOO, and NOT A "Honda"...and THEY'RE pretty damn knowledgable about this kind of stuff TOO, ya know!!!)

So, because I said "every Joe Blow out there with knowledge of...I'VE run across", THAT'S some kind'a freakin' "INSULT"????!!!!

Yeah, riiiight. Maybe I should've added "except you" in that statement, huh!

Yeah, riiiight. What an "insult" that I didn't include that in my statement, although OF COURSE it's freakin' GIVEN that you know a lot about this subject TOO!

(...well, I sure hope nobody ever "insults" you THIS badly ever again)

Yeah, you're right, Ken.

And now back to these new engines, that at least ALL of us can agree look a hell of a lot like the old Meriden ones.

(...didn't know "Bench Racing" could get so heated, did ya!)
