Hey guys, I'm trying to put something together for lodging at the rally this year, so I'm gonna need an idea of how many people will be there. DATE: July 5,6,7,8 LOCATION: Near La Crosse, WI
I know La Crosse is a little further of a ride for a lot of you, but from what research I've done, you will be greatly rewarded with some fantastic riding and scenery. I'm trying to put something together with a rental property that will save us some money over a hotel, and will be a much cooler place to stay. There is a 20x50 garage we can all park in as well as a "bike wash area". I'm posting a link to the place I'm looking at, so you can read the description yourself. I'm super excited about the prospect of using this place. A lot hinges on how many of us there are, and I know it's really early, but I need to at least get some kind of idea. Thanks everyone for letting me know asap on this!
I am a definite maybe. Like I said in the other thread, Angela is going to China for a couple weeks this summer and I don't know exactly when, but she did say the other day that I might be alone for the 4th of July... I would like to make the trip again for sure.
thanks for the dates the wife will put them in at work and see what happens.....as of right now we are a maybe as for the Condo if we do go..sorry but we will pass..... we will look for a hotel close by..
John and Micah - I know you guys live relatively close to the area, are you planning to stay with the group at the hotel/lodge, or are you gonna commute?
Scott,Diane would like to know about privasy issuse,IE, would she have to share a bathroom or dose each bedroom have it's own? I would like toknow how much farter this is than Timmbermans hotel for trip planning purposes?
Here's my plan. There are 3 condos with 2br and 2 bath. If for example, my wife and I are in one condo with another couple, we would each have our own bedroom and our own bathroom, as well as a living room area. At $150 a night per condo, that comes out to $75 per couple per night, which is about the same as I'm going to pay at a hotel. For the guys riding solo, they could stay 4 or 6 people in the third condo and would pay 25-35 or so bucks a night. They would have to share 2 bathrooms, but usually guys end up splitting hotel rooms anyway, so I don't think that will be an issue. If we get all 3 condos we have use of a caboose which has 2 singles and 1 double bed and 1 bathroom adjacent, which would lower the price even more. I was told that if we have all 3 condos rented, we would have use of a "captain's suite" which is another centrally located bedroom with it's own master bath attached. I was thinking this may be a good spot for Jack and Diane, or Ed and Vicki. We will also have use of a huge kitchen and meeting area, so if we wanted to cook a big meal or two, instead of going out to eat, that may save some $ also. In said meeting room we can play movies also if we wanted to. The owners of the place are bikers too, and said they would be happy to lead us around and show us the area if we wanted. They are also sending me some maps. If some of you are wanting to stay in a hotel instead, or if we have an overflow of people, there is a hotel about 3 blocks away (walking distance). She said they let members of the group that are staying in the hotel still keep their bikes in the garage. At timmermans I usually block off 10 rooms, and last year we didn't even fill those. Ideally I would love for there to be anywhere between 12 to 20 people staying at the lodge, obviously the more the merrier. Privacy is important especially for those of us bringing our significant others, I truly don't think that will be an issue. Those of us wanting more privacy may pay a little more, but no more than we would at a hotel anyway.

The town is Westby, WI, and it is about 2 hours (93 miles) north of East Dubuque, IL.
Scott, The place sounds great. I'll see you there!!! I'm really looking forward to it, seeing you all, and hate I had to miss last year. It would be awesome to have run of the whole place.
Scott, I'll be staying with the group. The ride daily ride from Dubuque would take some of the fun out of the rally. I have no problem splitting a 2 or 3 bedroom condo with anyone. If the condo fills up, the hotel would be OK too.
I reserved all 3 condos for the 5th, 6th, and 7th of July. I'm planning to get there on thursday. I'm not sure how many will be coming thursday, so if we don't fill all 3 we'll make adjustments as needed.
Put me down as a definite maybe too. I may be making a change in employers in the next week or so & may not be able to attend (sic: no vacation days available w/ new employer). But, if that connection falls thru I'll be there!!!
Chris? You still thinkin about meeting up in IA to share the road into WI? (See my post on the "Unofficial 2012 Midwest BA Thread).
I have spent some time riding that area and I have pencilled out 3 different routes that I think would be fairly representive of the area and offer a selection of either challenging back roads with plenty of hills and twisties. Or more leisurely touring of the northern Mississippi. if there is interest I can post the routes for discussion and we can alter them as needed. Or go a differnt way altogether.
I'm all ears. I'd like to hit the Mindoro cut, maybe SR33 through wildcat mtn. Again open to all suggestions because I'm just going by what I've seen on various websites, you having first hand knowledge is priceless.
1 – Very interesting ride all Wisconsin - under 180 miles but plan on 5 hours. Westby north on SR 27 to Cashton, then SR 33 west to SR 162 north, take CR II (left) to CR I (left) to SR 33 (make a left then a quick right) onto SR 162 south to Coon Valley, stay on 162 to SR 35 on the Mississippi river, go south to Genoa. Take SR 56 east to Viroqua to SR 82 north, turn left onto SR 33 and go west over Wild Cat Mountain and into Ontario, turn left onto SR 131 south to La Farge then turn right onto SR 82 west back to Viroqua and then a right turn north on SR 14 back to Westby.
2 – Easy ride – Great River Road north – 2 states – 260 miles, 6 hours – all day ride Westby take SR 14 west until it joins SR 35 (great river road) north, cross the river going through La Crescent and onto Minnesota hwy 61 go north to Red Wing and loop around onto hwy 63 across the Mississippi and back into Wisconsin. Take SR 35 south to Onalaska (or divert a bit east to take the Mindoro cut ) and onto I-90 east. Take the SR 162 exit at Bangor, ride south to meet SR 33, go east on SR 33 to Cashton and then south on SR 14 back to Westby)
3 - Easy tour of river – 3 states – 240 miles, 6 hours – all day ride. Westby take SR 27 south/west to Prairie Du Chien, cross the Mississippi into Iowa the head north on SR 76 (great river road). Stay on GRR north (hwy X52) to just before La Crescent, MN. Turn left/west onto SR 16 to Rushford, and then take SR 43 North to I 90 east. (Option here, take 43 north thru the bluffs to Winona. Or, ride down I-90 (very scenic) back thru La Crosse) Then; onto I-90 east. Take the SR 162 exit at Bangor, ride south to meet SR 33, go east on SR 33 to Cashton and then south on SR 14 back to Westby.

I won't be there, but I can confirm for any fence sitters that is a great riding country. I used to live in Mineral Point, WI. Between 1976 - 1979, a buddy (on an old Trident that once sucked part of the air cleaner into the carbie) and I (T-140) spent a fair amount of time running up and down that big ole river & exploring the uplands aound it. Enjoy
OK as of right now me and Vicki are in and making plans to be there.. we still need to figure out the room situation ..our own room and bath..but it looks like that will work both ways...condo or hotel ...
and on to the rides...remember to plan for stops and photo stops
Cool, hope it's a nice ride out for you guys. I will definitely add some stops to whatever routes we decide on. You guys gonna ferry it across lake Michigan again?
not this time..but we will be out early we will be staying with her family over the 4th of July in Brussels, WI then ride down to the rally on the 5th ..

Karl, I'd rather ride together than alone and I assume you would to so, YA. I'm not sure if Dave is coming yet so work out all the details when we get closer. We'll have to trade cell #'s and shtuff too.

No way I can know this far out, but I'd sure like to ride up with you and Dave if I get the chance.

Chris, Yep, I'd rather ride up with some like minded folk for sure! It sounds like we'll have a nice sized group to ride with (4+). I'll PM my contact info to ya & am thinkin Waterloo,IA would be the best place to meet up for the haul into WI. It's been awhile since I've been up in that neck o' the woods....so I'll have to websearch for a place to meet there, unless you have a spot in mind.
I was close to LaCrosse back in 2010. Although this was day nine, it was really day 10. I actually stayed in Savannah IL instead of starved rock. I think I was already well into the second of my back pocket days.
The second half of your trip is following some of the routes we used to ride for the midwest rally. From Lansing, IA all the way to Savanna, IL. We've taken a couple different ways, but those were usually the northern most and southern most points of the rally rides. Of course this year we'll be a little further north.
I know you like to keep it just on this forum ..but I think you could open this up to the rocket riders over on that forum.. lot of good people over there and I know and there are some locals right there in Lacrosse that ride a rocket but this is just a suggestion...
Not a bad idea Ed, like you said, first priority is the people here, once we get closer we'll invite other groups. I want to make sure the arrangements wwork out for everybody here first. But yeah,I'm open to that.
Good find Ed. Here is another link to the Logan Mill Lodge aka rally central.
I emailed Ruth (property owner) and she responded as follows;
608-634-2230 Central Express is 3 blocks north of our lodge. Please let them know I referred you to them! They have a nice family restaurant by the motel.
B&B two blocks away 608-634-4112
608-634-2111 Old Towne Inn 1 mile on south edge of Westby
That is all we have in city limits of westby...I can give you numbers for some places in rural westby that each have 1 small cabin if city of westby is full. Also...we MIGHT have more remodeling done by then and have 2 more bedrooms.
hey Scott..here is a link to that Central Express.. web page they have a face book page so people can see what the rooms look like..and the price looks very nice for that place from what I saw it's $44 bucks Sunday to Thursday ..I will call and get the Friday & Saturday rate and that B&B looks good also
I called Central Express.. today well for get about that place you can get a room for Thursday & Friday night ..but from I was told all the room are booked for Saturday night.. but some else can call and check it out ..she said a local booked them..all 20
We should have.plenty of room in the lodge, but yes, central express hotel is booked saturday. For those wishing to stay somewhere other than the lodge, there is old town inn down the road a little.
All this nice (for chicago) weather we've been having has really got me jonesing, i'm stoked about the rally this year!
Well, it would appear that my employment change thing didn't work out (applied & interviewed for a Supply Chain Analyst position at ...Hmmmph (clearing throat) Harley Davidson. Soooooo, Scott, looks like I'll be able to join all at lodge & I am looking forward to the ride up to WI.
Hi Scott, can you put me down as a definite starter, riding Eddy's (Fast Eddy Hofstrand) speedmaster whilst he rides his T-Bird, starting from his place and back again.
Btw, because he's been tied up with some unexpected issues I don't think he's had time to organise our accommodation. Would it be possible to let us know of some good options available?
That would be awesome if you could make it Dave, not so much to meet, ride and have a few beers with ya, but more so just to drool over that bike of yours
You've made my day Scott. I wasn't sure whether Eddy and I may have been a bit late in securing a spot where we could mingle with the others on the rally in those times in between the riding and organized get to gathers. It's my experience some of the best times happens when we're just sitting around together having a coffee and simply mingling.
Anyway, I know you understand what I'm trying to explain Scott cos you realized the importance of organizing the lodge for blokes like myself. I'm stoked and I'm sure Eddy will be when i tell him.

Absolutely Stacka, in previous years we've had a great gathering area at the hotel. Since we're moving a little bit north this time, I wanted to find a placethat would would still afford us the opportunity to mingle comfortably.
Quote: Cool. Sorry the job thing didn't work out, but it'll be a good time I promise!
Scott, I'm really looking forward to the run/rally. Sounds like it'll be a real hoot. The job thing was a shot in the dark, & I'm still gainfully employed. I figure if it was in the cards it woulda happened. At least there is one less person unemployed in America.
Ok guys, I got a request for payment from the Logan Mill Lodge (aka rally central).
"Since we have turned away other groups who wanted the same weekend as your group will be renting the lodge, we need to ask for rent payment at this time. Watch for an email from Paypal with a request for payment of $1350."
The amount is for all 3 condos, all 3 nights. My plan is to have you all send me a paypal payment and I'll send it to the lodge. I think the best way to do it is to take the total and divide it by the number of people. If only the people who are definitely in, we have 15. I didn't include Biker (Ed & Vicki)or enGage because they are staying somewhere else. That comes out to $90 per person, so it's $30 a night for each person. Obviously if some of the people from the "maybe" list decide to come, the total per person will decrease, and I'll refund the rest of us accordingly. I'll keep a list here of everyone who has paid and how much.
Please send Paypal to scottcripps@yahoo.com. If you don't like paypal and would rather pay another way, that's cool, pm me or email me, let me know how you want to do it.
If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, please pm me, email me, or post it here.
Thanks guys, I'm really looking forward to the rally this year!

just throwing these out there
Here's a few rides Mag10 suggested awhile back...I'm open for anything that involves some nice twisties & scenery.
So far no solid plans, other than riding friday, riding saturday. I'm sure there will be a few interesting stops along the way. Usually everyone just hangs out together after the rides at the hotel, maybe drink a beer or two. Otherwise, no itenerary has been set, but I'll work on it. And of course any suggestions from those more familiar with the area are welcomed.
Here's the lowdown as far as the rooms/layout of the place, just in case you were wondering.
Rent the entire 7000 sq. ft Logan Mill Lodge in Westby for just $450/night and get all this…
Condo #1 (on first floor) will sleep up to 8 people in 4 queen beds:
1500 sq. ft. including 2 bedrooms (each has 1 queen bed), 2 ½ baths, kitchen, dining room, living room with 2 queen sofa sleepers
Condo #2 (on second floor) will sleep up to 8 people in 4 queen beds:
1500 sq ft including 2 bedrooms (each with 1 queen bed), 2 baths, kitchen, dining room, living room with 2 more queen beds (Murphy bed that folds out of wall and bed by fireplace)
Condo #3 (on second floor above the party room) will sleep up to 8 people:
1500 sq ft including kitchen, dining room, living room with 1 double size sofa bed, 2 bedrooms each with 3 single beds (can be converted to 1 king/1single in each bedroom), and 2 full bathrooms.
NOTE: If your group is smaller and you don’t need to rent the entire lodge, you can rent each condo for $150/night but rental fee would not include use of the areas of the lodge listed below.
CABOOSE - will sleep up to 4 people in one 8 ft x 20 ft room – this is like a “camping cabin”
You will be sleeping just like the conductor and the engineer slept when this caboose ran through Westby at the end of the Milwaukee Road Caboose during the 1950’s!
Caboose has 2 single beds and 1 double bed. Note that people sleeping in caboose will need to bring sleeping bags
Caboose does NOT have a bathroom but there is one bathroom with shower in the lodge designated for use by caboose occupants.
Extra bed/bath suite in hallway near party room: can be set up as 2 single beds OR 1 king bed. – usually used for the group leader and/or for Grandpa/Grandma.
PARTY/CONFERENCE ROOM – seats 48 people around tables and has a kitchen at one end of party room that you may be used by you and/or a catering company for group meal prep/service
GARAGE 20 x 50 ft. 2 car garage that can be locked for secure parking area of bicycles/motorcycles/cars. Also works for overflow from the party room for larger groups as there are plastics tables/chairs that can be set up to seat another 48 people in the garage.
Thanks for your interest in my Vacation Rental Condos and Conference Center !
Count me as a YES!!!!!! I'm on vacation that week and that area is like my back yard. I'll probably stay either at the Central Express, or a buddy's place about 10 miles away. Tons of good riding to be had out there!!
Quote: Scott, looks like we will be havin some sweet accomadations! Thanks for your efforts in coordinating stuff. You are the Master Rally Planner dude!
Thanks Karl, just trying to make it cool for everyone.
Barry- I think central express is booked up that weekend. There's room in the lodge if you want.
I'm about 90% certain I'll be there. Just me, the wife won't ride on the bike. What's left for accommodations? I'm guessing a chicken coop and a bring my own sleeping bag? What is the cheapskate rate and where do I send it?

Haha! You missed out on the chicken coop, you'll have to stay in the pig sty! I'm kidding of course Larry. There will be room for you in the lodge, but will probably be on a fold out bed, or murphy bed, or perhaps a twin bed in one of the condos. There is however an option to sleep in a restored caboose, if you do indeed want to bring a sleeping bag. Not kidding this time. (see page 9 for room layout) When we get closer to the rally we'll see how many people we are and if anyone needs to bring a sleeping bag. $90 will cover you for all 3 nights, but this number should go down after we are all accounted for. At that point ill send everyone whatever the difference is. The price of the lodge is 1350, so I'm splitting it up by the number of people. Right now we're at 15.
Yeah, a big thanks from me too Scott. I just had a look at the layout of the Lodge and for the money, I can't believe what we are getting. Also the amount of work that would have gone into converting the original mill to accommodation is really impressive. Obviously, hard working folk in Westby.
I also love reading about the History of the area and get this, the neighbors are Amish. Cool
I'm really looking forward to riding the beautiful country and to meet one of the most generous blokes I've ever come across. I'm talking about Eddy (Fast Eddy Sports).
He's putting me up in his Caravan for a few weeks and even letting me ride his Speedmaster whilst he has to go to work. Wow. I just hope he can fly over to Aus so we can ride some of the great country over my way.
Anyway Scotty, this rally is going to create memories I will never forget. Thanks again mate.
Quote: Anyone coming thru central or north central Iowa on the way to the gathering? If I must shove off alone, I would like to hook up with a convey...
I am currently working on two local cats with a BA and a SM to ride with.
I'll be leaving from the Des Moines area. I'll likely take the scenic route rather than deadhead to the rally.

My current plan is to head out on the 4th and ride up to either Des Moines or Waterloo then head out Thursday morning for Westby. I'm Tentatively planning on meeting up with Scott, and Chris somewhere in IA for the ride into Westby. PM me as we get closer and as planning gets more complete.

I will probably hook up will ladisney who is in Des Moines. He has a back road route planned from Des Moines to LaCrosse that looks pretty bitchin. It goes up to me in Alden and over to Parksburg, which is about a half hour from Waterloo.

Yup. I'm still with ya so we'll need to be getting some plans together. I'll call ya. And I paid that bum, Scott so I'm all good to go.

I'll be leaving from Dubuque, IA sometime Thursday. It's maybe 70 miles to Westby from here. If anyone wants to meet in the the Dubuque area and ride together, let me know.
looking good and it does look like we will be get the ferry.. web page if we were just going to the rally we would not do it..but now that we are going out early and and staying with family it just makes more sense then trying to ride around Chicago because it's hard enough just driving through Chicago...in a cage

Hey guys, do me a favor, when sending me money through paypal please send it as "personal" not as a "purchase". If it's put through as a purchase, paypal charges me. I'll cover the difference, but I'm gonna be owed a couple beers come rally time! Maybe a nice cigar
Here's what Wildcat Mountain looks like. I took this video last year. It's a fun ride and very close to rally central. I grew up in the area and know it like the back of my hand. I'll gladly lead an excursion or 2 through some nice lesser known scenic back roads if anyone is interested.
Awesome video Barry! I think it would be great if you were to lead us on some rides, I was hoping to have Micah do the same, since both of you guys know the area well. Usually these big group rides are best kept to about 200 miles or less, and we have to plan meal stops, and other cool attractions/scenic stops along the way. I can't wait until July.
The nice part of our location is that most of the really cool places to see are within a 50 mile circle of rally central. Personally, I think the location is one of the states best kept secrets.
I'M IN!!! Looks like I can make it after all! The wife can't make it though, and I'll have to find a way to make it up to her. I'll be talking to some of you fella's to find out if I can hook up with ya for the trip up.
Hey Rich, that's cool. Maybe you could hook up with me and buffalo on the ride up. We'll see. As it gets closer I'm going to try and organize the trip up.
All ya need is a length of PVC pipe to mimic the sound of a Didgeridoo. Besides, I've gotta leave some room in my case for my bike gear.
Yep, this rally is going to be something else. It's been a dream of mine to ride over your way and meet people like Chris, Dave if he can make it and all the other fantastic people on this forum. I know the word culture is used way too often and many times out of context but I started off on that other forum and defected just as another bloke was booted outa here (some will remember) and i knew then this place had a real culture that was accepting and helpful on one level but were straight shooters on another. That's when I knew I wanted to be part of it.
Anyway, it's Just a shame the population is spread too far and wide for everyone on here to meet up.
I'm sure we can make do though, and particularly with the great accommodation and countryside for riding.
Stacka, Have you researched what it would cost to bring a motor bike over to the States, to be able to ride? I dream of taking my bike over to England, Oz, Aussie, and South Africa. It would be even better for a group to do so.
Actually Justin, I was just thinking 'again' how brilliant it would be to ride around / through or whatever way necessary to see the best parts of the U.S.
To answer your question though, sort of.
What I mean by that is, we have a shipping company over here called "Get Routed". Now one day I'll explain what "Route" (but spelt differently) means over here if you don't know already but I vaguely remember them charging around $3,000 USD return (When I say vague I mean it ha ha). I can easily find out the exact amount and yes, whilst it's a lot of money, I think you'd agree Justin how priceless it would be to be able to ride your own mount.
I too have thought about the idea of a group of us touring a country but I'm a realist to believe it's near on impossible for most people to afford both the time and the money. Meaning, if you want to live your dreams you have to plan your own thing and as they say "Ride Your Own Way". Apologies for that but it's true. I've also travelled a fair bit by myself over here and it's an extremely liberating feeling to accomplish.
In fact after I visit the States, I will be taking delivery of a new Tiger with the exact intention of riding round the best places of Aus. After that ya just never know do you??
Scott, Chris...Judging from all the recent posts from BA mems in IA I'm getting this vision of aquiring 8-10 more bro to share the road up to Westby along the way! The more the merrier I always say

Looks like you guys are going to be rolling deep! May be a solo trip for me. In fact, I don't think my wife is going to make it this time.
Quote: Hell no, Scott. We're the most entertaining, funniest group of guys to adorn the states in this century. I assure you, ask anyone.
I don't know about being THE funniest. But I do know that I make me laugh everyday! And we'll definately be talking about hooking up on the way up. If it's anything like last year, or the year before, you fella's go right by me, as I live about one block from your route up. Remember the first year, we ate at an Italian place just up the road from me.
Quote: Stacka, how about adding some Aussie Scotch to your kit...is there such a thing??? I'm looking forward to meeting you in Westby Bro.
No scotch made here but lots of Rum due to our convict heritage and who knows how many acres of sugar cane.
I'm sure you've heard this one before Stacka, but maybe somebody here hasn't yet....
Australian Customs Official at the Sydney Airport: "Sir, before I allow you into our country, I have to ask you if you've ever been convicted of any crimes in England?"
British Tourist: "Wow! I didn't know that that was still a requirement to get into your country, sir!"
(...yeah, it's an oldie but still a goodie, eh Stacka ol' buddy?!)
this rally has me considering something I would not ever previously thought of doing, trailering the bikes! I really want to have speedmaster there but it is not set up to be a 2 up bike, where as the Tbird is. The mrs could ride the speedmaster but refuses (claiming sanity)and the T-bird is too big. So it got me thinking, I know of several people with trailers I could use ( I will try to avoid the HD logo ones). Take both bikes and room for a keg or 2 of homebrew. Normaly I would consider the ride there to be a part of the trip, but in this case it is pretty close and roads I could ride most any time.
Quote: ...I know of several people with trailers I could use ( I will try to avoid the HD logo ones).
Hey Micah, you DO realize don't ya that with that one parenthetical addendum in your above statement, you have GREATLY diminished your chances of a successful ending to your upcoming search, RIGHT?!

All the HD owners I know have trailers. But not all of the trailer owners have HDs. Hows that
I've been thinking about getting a trailer too. Not for the midwest rally, but for the family trips back east. Every summer we pack up the kids and go to Delaware for a week at the beach. I've often thought of how nice it would be to have my bike there. I think I'm going to mount a hitch on the (how gay is this) mini van, and trailer the bike when I go back home.
Looks like you guys are going to be rolling deep! May be a solo trip for me. In fact, I don't think my wife is going to make it this time.
Scott, I was looking at routes & towns where we might be able to meet in IA for the ride into Westby, but danged if I could find a good one that didn't drag you too far west to meet. :hmmm Anyhoo, It'll be great to meet you @ Rally Central on Thursday!
I'd buy a couple of t-shirts if they were available. Has there been t-shirts made for other Midwest rallies. If so is there any chance of seeing what they're look like. Just interested that's all.
Ya, Stacka. We've always done t-shirts. In fact, I don't think I've been to a rally without one. Here's what the front looks like: See big scary dude with the shades(that's rally master scott) On the back is usually a nice big image of fast eddy's logo. I could take some pics of mine if you want a better look, just ask.
Ohhhh....can't wait to see the Rally Tee designs. Sign me up fer 2.
OH! All interested parties, I've got my itinerary all set out: Will be leaving my hometown on 7/4/12. I just couldn't do the 4 lane slab (I35) thing (too boring a ride...if ya know what I mean), so have opted to take US65 N (mostly 2 lane) into Des Moines. I'll overnight @ the Travlodge. Will head out 7/5/12 to Westby WI, via Iowa City (more 2 lane) .
If any of the mems from the Des Moines area would like to convoy into Westby PM me with your contact info to work out the logistics.
Edited to correct dates: Thanks Scot...darn, I hates them typos! Thank God I have spellcheck at work!
Hey Buff, I think you're going to get there about 3 months early! Not to mention the whole time travel thing, I know the black ones are fast and all, but not that fast!
Yep, well Scott I didn't wanna wait til the last minute to get my act together for the ride up to Westby. It's only 63 days to until my vacation starts anyhoo, & it pays to plan ahead!
Lol, just busting your chops. You said you were leaving 4/4/12 instead of 7/4/12. If I were out that way I'd ride in with ya, but I'll be coming from the other direction.
Quote: Lol, just busting your chops. You said you were leaving 4/4/12 instead of 7/4/12. If I were out that way I'd ride in with ya, but I'll be coming from the other direction.
I didn't notice my dates were wrong...Thanx for the heads-up. No sweat on the ride up....I fairly certain some of the mems in the Des Moines area will PM or chime in as the date gets closer. Looking forward to drinkin a beer or 2, 3,4,.... with ya @ rally central!
So you're cruising out on Wednesday? That's cool. So how many hours will that be going up for you? Just curious. Should be a great ride. The quickest route on google maps shows about 8.5 hours from St. Louis. I'm going to just slab it and roll out of STL around 6am or so. I fully intend on speeding and plan to get there sooner than the expected time.
Quote: 6am? Damn dude, you're gonna make me get up early? [/quote Darn, that'll probably be a 8:30 call for me to hook up with you guys. Yaaaawwwwwn..., that's rough.
Chris, From the KC metro (I am just a bit east of there) the ride up US65 to Des Moines will run about 3 hrs....not including pit stops & such & I ain't gonna be in any hurry for sure. Thursday the route that Larry has laid out will take us about 7+ hours & it's all 2 lane.
In total 10 hrs on the road just to get there for me. Glad I'm gonna overnight in Des Moines & hoping to get an early start Thursday as well. But that depends on Larry....I'm thinkin a 6 or 7 a.m. start sounds okay.
If I took the shortest route on Google it would run just over 8 hrs on the road (KC to Westby) I will probably be running the slab all the home Sunday the 8th.
ladisney is in Des Moines, and has a pretty killer two laner planned out. It takes highway 65 north to me in Iowa Falls, then angles over to the LaCrosse area.
Well guys, I visited with Mag10 last weekend, and we came up with a couple killer rides. One is relatively short, but with lots of twisties, the other is longer, but an easier pace, with sweepers and scenic views of the river. I'll get a couple maps posted here shortly.
I have also been in conversations with Eddy about t-shirts, and it looks like it's a go. We designed a new logo, and a new name for the rally going forward. More details on that to come. I'll probably start a new thread for the shirts.
Sounds like you may have picked routes I was thinking of coming up with....... There is no shortage of twisties in the rally area. Lots of nice views as well!!
Fairly early sounds good. I'm still asking around about the best fireworks locally. The route is mainly on the smaller roads. I'm aiming to stay away from the heavily travelled roads as much as reasonably possible and go through the hilly (and hopefully fairly twisty) parts of NE Iowa and SE Minnesota.
Just got the temp replacement (until the PS412's arrive) shock today & it's on the bike (Fast Eddy ROCKS!), and went for a "test" ride to Gallatin, MO this evening...all is well with Black Beauty again!. Larry, I'm with ya avoiding the "heavily" traveled roads into Westby....the ride up to Gallatin,MO is the initial leg for my route north & it's a pretty nice ride & not generally a heavy traffic route. When I jump to US65N I'll get into the mix for sure tho.
Ahhh... Gallatin... I lived in Trenton for five years. Actually, I will be back there the 24th and 25th. My mom still owns the house at Leisure Lake, and I will be spending the night. I am taking 65 down to Urbana to visit my pops for a couple days. Then, head up to Moline, IL to see my lady friend. Should be near a 1k mile weekend!!
Have not been on here in a while. Just realized you guys are planning this event only 25 min from my house. I will easily be able to make it up there thursday and friday. Will be nice to see some more brit bikes in the area. How do I go about getting a shirt?

Cool! It's always nice to have some local input on things, where to eat, where to avoid, cool side trips, etc. As far as the shirts go, FastEddy is handling it, he should be posting something soon about ordering info.
That's right, all you lousy Cub fans are gonna have to tolerate my gloating... again! I'll make sure I bring my 2011 World Series Champion shirts so you can all see what they look like
Should be a good time. I guess if Rich and I are both gonna be there then there will be a shortage of chips again? Sorry, my jokes are 3 years old since I've missed out on the last couple rallies
Yeah, you know, the next year we went again, and there was an abundance of chips. The only difference was you and Rich weren't there. Coincidence? I think not! No riverboat cruise planned for this year, so it's strictly a BYOC event.
Sucks that I won't be able to make it. Happens to be the weekend that my company is moving into a new Factory we just built. All hands on deck for the entire weekend. Beautiful area up in LaCrosse, should be an awesome event. I'm sure Scott will knock it out of the park. If there is a bright side, at least I won't have to listen to Chris gloat about the Cardinals
Maybe the chips are gonna be safe, but anything food wise is up for grabs. I always eat way bigger than I look. Word of warning... Watch out who sits next to me and don't stand in front of me in a buffet! (Someday that's gonna catch up to me!)
Ok, here's what we have planned for the friday ride. If anyone local knows of any cool stops or good restaurants/bars along the route, please chime in.
Friday ride – Very interesting ride all Wisconsin, lots of hills and twisties and the northern Dragon. 169 miles, but plan on at least 5 hours with stops. I'm thinking kickstands up at around 10 am. We can do a group breakfast somewhere in Westby around 9, or if people want to go out on their own that's cool too. So leaving from the lodge, Ride north through Cashton, west on 33, 162, etc, until we reach Grandad Bluff. From Grandad Bluff, through Coon Valley, Chaseburg, and Stoddard, on the way to Genoa, where we can stop for lunch. Possible lunch stops;
We will probably need to stop for gas in one of those towns, and we could stop if there is anything cool to stop for along the way. From Genoa, ride east through Viroqua and Lafarge (we can add stops in here if needed) on 82 until it connects with 33, west to Wildcat Mountain state park for another stop. From Wildcat Mtn towards Ontario, south on 131 to County rd P back to Westby.
Here's a link to the google map. (I tried to embed the map here but I don't know how). If anyone can download this onto a gps you will be my hero.
Nice route. I usually don't go east of USH 61 much so that will be new ground for me. I did check with the local Highway dept and they may have some road constuction on CTH II in La Crosse county and I would suggest avoiding that road if the road construction is started. Otherwise I am getting pumped to meet a bunch of fellow brit bike lovers and go for a ride.

CTH II, is that county hwy 2? or II? The whole lettering system up there confuses me sometimes. If that road is under construction, maybe we can stay on 33 going out towards Grandad Bluff.
Just so you know here is WI County Highways all have letters and State highways all have numbers. I can check on the construction closer to that day but staying on 33 and skipping II would be a good thing if they are working on that road. II is a pretty good hill with very sharp curves that would suck when covered with gravel.
I'm just throwing this out there, but with a kitchen and gas and charcoal grills at our disposal, I see no reason why we can't throw down on some BBQ for dinner back at the lodge... I figure there should be a grocery store somewhere in the area with steaks and stuff.

I'm with ya on that for sure Dave.....Nothin beats good BBQ, & brews in my book. I've been perfecting my pork/beef BBQ ribs recipe since February.

and I have yet to find a steakhouse that can make one better than I can... man, I'm getting hungry
Westby has all the ammenities that we need. Grocery Store, gas, plenty of places to eat.... Central Express is good for breakfast. The Old Town Supper Club on the south end of town is also a good place to eat. We should easily be able to play things by ear.

Cool, we'll have to keep an eye on it. Thanks for the heads up!

there are a couple of good alternatives to CR II off of SR 162. I am expecting to be in that area in the next 2 weeks and will check it out. CR II is a wicked road with a disturbingly steep down hill hair pin turn at the end of a switch back.
Rocton Tavern (Hiway 131 in Rockton) is one of the better local establishments, and it just happens to be on the route laid out by Scott. Great food and beverages to suit everybody.

good idea, I will expect to have worked up a thirst coming thru Wildcat Mountain.

What types of roads is everyone looking at riding??? Easy stuff? Twisties?? A bit of a mix?? I spend 84.3% of my free time in that area and do most of my traveling (bike and cage) on the lettered county roads. I think a lot of the off the beaten path roads have the best views of the area. There is a lot of terrain in the region and the state/us highways always take the easiest route which, to me, can be a little...... less fun. Of course, this is subjective.
With a little "tweeking" I could change the routes that Scott came up with and even do a route or 2 of my own if you would like. I'll be loading all the routes into my Garmin for the rally.
One thing to note about area roads. This is farm country and Amish country. Prepare yourself for horse drawn carts and a few road apples in places. Also, some curves may have a light scattering of gravel. Nothing serious, but there none the less. As always, use caution and everything will be just fine. IMHO this area has the best riding in the state!!
I don't know how the flatlanders feel, but I like roads with a high amount of technical difficulty. The ones that can hurt you if you don't pay attention at all times make me
I am kind of a safety buff myself and feel that larger groups should ride the safer routes and too many curves and twists can lead to unsafe conditions. Save the white knuckle rides for smaller groups or solo rides and lets just cruise.
Quote: I am kind of a safety buff myself and feel that larger groups should ride the safer routes and too many curves and twists can lead to unsafe conditions. Save the white knuckle rides for smaller groups or solo rides and lets just cruise.
Agree, safer routes for larger groups as there are always riders in big group rides who may not be comfortable in highly skilled areas . You guys familiar with the area could draw up some more difficult routes as as options for smaller groups looking to do additional exploring.

+1 on safety for sure....although I enjoy a good challenging ride with lots of twisties, I think routes that offer mix of intermedite to challenging would fit best. Ya know any road can be "unsafe" if ya don't pay attention!
I don't think there are any roads in the area that are outside the envelope of rider safety or experience. I just wanted to get a feel for what people are looking for before I start planning a few rides.
Barry - Just remember we will be rolling DEEP, big group, 20+ bikes, some 2 up. A spirited yet leisurely pace is probably best. Challenging roads at times, and the ability to relax and enjoy the scenery as well. The routes Micah and I came up with kind of had this in mind. For friday we have a ride that's a little shorter, but has plenty of twists, and saturday it's a longer ride, but more sweepers and scenic drives along the river, with the Mindoro Cut thrown in for good measure. That's not to say they can't be tweaked - of course they can. Feel free to tweak away, just keep this stuff in mind. Also, try to keep it around 200 miles, a big group is going to move slower, and stops have to be figured in too. Usually after 200 or so miles, everyone is ready to call it a day, head back and start throwing a few back. Something else that might be a good idea is what was mentioned before, maybe design a couple of really challenging routes and go with a smaller group, maybe have it so we meet up for some of the stops, that way people can choose which route they want to go. Nothing says we all have to go the same way. In fact we've done this in the past.
Well here's what we have so far for the saturday ride.
Easy ride, longer,(256 miles) but not as technical, lots of sweepers and great river road scenery, with some twisty stuff thrown in here and there. I figure we can leave again after breakfast, head towards La Crosse, stopping by the world's largest six pack before heading across into MN. Heading north up hwy 61 stopping in Wabasha at Slippery's tavern (of "Grumpy Old Men" fame). We then head further north towards Red Wing, and across the river into WI, and back south down the River Road. The Great River Road diverts east towards Galesville, this is where we pick up Hwy 54 over to Co Hwy T, and south on hwy 108 through the Mindoro Cut. At West Salem we go east until we pick up 162, and head south towards Westby.
I haven't planned out the stops on this ride, mostly because I don't know of any. There are a few state parks along the route, some of which may be cool to stop at. Also any good places in Red Wing, along the WI side of the river, or in Galesville, West Salem, etc. Hoping for some help from the locals with this, otherwise we'll just play it by ear, stop wherever looks cool.
Here's the google map, again hoping for someone (Barry?) to get this stuff on a gps.
Honestly, It's getting pretty full. There may be one or two spots left, in the caboose. I'm still waiting on payment from a couple guys, so if they decide not to come, that's 2 more. I'll keep you posted as we get closer.
In remembrance of Friar John, I suggest we wear a piece of black cloth on our bikes, maybe tied to the bars or mirror or something. What do ya think? (And hopefully, I'll have a memorial sticker by then.)
I was told by the guy who was going to run my store while I was at the rally that he just took another job starting on the 18th. Unfortunately, my other guys are not up to running the store. Unless something happens it looks like I will be stuck at work.

That sucks dude! I was looking forward to meeting you and sharing the road to rally central with you. I'll PM Justin & arrange logistics to convoy up to the rally. Still hope things work out and that you will be able to go.

Total bummer Larry. But as usual, I have an idea to fix your problem. Burn down the store and use the money to wine and dine us at the rally? See, it's a win, win! (No need to thank me. I help people all the time with my idea's )
Quote: Karl, you can still roll with Chris and I as we meet up with Rich in Iowa and make a small but powerful group
Cool. Dave, where were you and Chris gonna meet up with Rich in IA? I'm working on the route logistics to meet with Calkins & looks like the best place for Justin & I to meet is gonna be at Parkersburg. From there we could roll into Evansdale pretty easy & meet you dudes at the truckstop @ US20 exit 68.

Man that just suxs, I was looking forward to swaping sea stories about P-3s and S-3 vikings. You got to work something out to be there for at least one day Steve_Sixmil
Some recent work up in the twin cities allowed me the oppurtunity to 'scout' a fair portion of the proposed ride routes. I was looking for detours and road destruction and so on. I am happy to report that wild cat mountain has fairly new back top, only one rough bit on a 20mph S turn but otherwise all good. The state highways (61 ands 35) on both sides of the river are clear and in great shape, waysides and viewing areas all open. County road T to Mindoro has new black top. Going south from Mindoro the road is rough but once you start climbing you are not going to be going too fast anyhow. The top of the hill (where the actual 'cut' is) would be a good place for a photo, as there is a turn out there. The road condition is better coming down the grade, which is good because it is a much more technical ride. SR 162 is having the shoulders scraped but it should be done before the rally and CR II is open at this time. We should have some great rides and awesome scenery.
Quote: Some recent work up in the twin cities allowed me the oppurtunity to 'scout' a fair portion of the proposed ride routes.
Excellent job! Just got new ME880's on fornt & back & I'll have the new skins broke in within a week! Getting anxious to rumble north to meet all! This rally is gonna be so
I'm getting anxious too. Thanks Micah for scouting out some of the route, it must've been miserable having to take all those back roads on the way up to MN. Way to take one for the team!
belay that!!!! my son Allan just made the finger lakes storm lacrosse team first line face off middie this is big!!!! this is a travel team that will be doing all the bigger lax tournament here and up in Canada and up and down the east cost with collage scouts at all of them!!!!!!
sooooooooo me and Vicki more them likely won't be making the rally now..
will know better in a day or two but it looks like not..

Congrats man! That is so much more important!!
So, there is a slim chance that I will be in Moline, IL July 3-5. Is anyone traveling to the rally near there?

Well congrats to Allan! Sorry though that you wont be able to come to the rally. I was looking forward to hanging out with u guys again. Good luck to your son, and here's to a full ride to Syracuse
Okay, seems there's a slim chance I'll be riding solo from Des Moines into Waterloo/Evansdale on the 5th. Anyone in that neck of the woods heading to rally central is welcome to convoy. PM me for route details.

Yep, sure did Dave. I plan to be at the Triumhant Church (@ juction of Hwy 150 & Hwy20 in Independence, IA) sometime around 11:00 a.m. or so to meet ya'll to motor on to Westby.
Dave and Chris will be the guys with smoking tires and faces that look to be pulling 7 G's. I'll be the fella in the back attached to them with a bungee and a look of fear about me.

That sounds familiar - Rick instead of Dave, but familiar. And now that Chris has another 1500cc's...

The last time I tried to burn rubber, I throttled a little too much and pulled a massive wheely that crushed my D&D's up a little on the back tips. Whoops. . You all will see what I did. I'm pissed but more embarrassed.

Seeing as how Black Beauty is well Black, I thought that a bit of Black ribbon round the mirror would work, but thought again that it wouldn't be that visible. So, I got creative, did some cut n' paste computer stuff and came up with this.
Very temporary as it probably wont stand a lot of weather...but it should work until we get the offical "Friar's memorial stickers/patches"
Sorry gang but I'm going to have to drop out. Mom fell Saturday night and broke both her wrist and hip and I'll be in rotation with my brothers and sister care taking of dad until we get it figured out.
Sorry to here the news. I was looking forward to meeting you for the first time. Two wrists AND a hip? Damn, that sucks but we gotta do what we gotta do. Take care Mom and you'll have to make next year.
OMG! I totally forgot about that! Gonna need a stronger bungee...
hell, me too, I can't keep up anymore if that tells you anything... except in the twisties
Now that's true. I just haven't built the confidence yet to drop this thing lower in the curves at speed. I'm a wuss and don't want to go low down under this monster.

That frees up a bunk...
Sorry to hear that Ed, I was also looking forward to finally meeting you in person. Hope your mom heals up nice and quick.
Now, can I interest you in one Arkansas Rally this fall?

Bummer Ed, I was looking forward to meeting you as well. I sure hope your Mom mends quickly.

Bummer. But your parents are lucky to have you and your family to help out. I know plenty of older folks who don't have anybody. There's always another rally.

Sorry to hear the bad news Ed, I was looking forward to meeting you too. Hope your mom has a speedy recovery.
is right. I'll be thinking about y'all while I'm in Charleston.
Ed, I was looking forward to having you along for the trip to and from. We had everything charted out for the big run. Oh Well, there is always the next ride. Take care of mom and let us know how she is progressing.
With oldroadie not being able to make the run my route and departure day has changed a bit. I’ll be leaving out of Knoxville, TN on the Wednesday the 4th with plans to arrive in Westby Thursday afternoon. Looking forward to seeing a few old friends and a lot of new friends.
I know who the mystery guest is too but I am also sworn to secrecy. That person may be riding the same route as me and I should be arriving thursday afternoon.
I'm getting anxious too. Hard to believe it's just over a week away. I spoke to the landlord the other day and we are all set. There are 2 grills we can use, (1charcoal, 1gas) and there is a big commercial fridge we can use for food & beer. There are also fridges in each condo. All we have to do now is get the sleeping arrangements somewhat nailed down. If anyone wants to request roommates, (or roommates they want to avoid for that matter), PM me and let me know. I think we're pretty much at capacity right now, unless someone wants to bring a sleeping bag and stay in the caboose. Or if someone wanted to bring their wife or someone else to share a bed with, we could make that work too. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

I'm bringing a bedroll just in case, I'll even take the caboose if it has air conditioning. If not, floor is cool with me too. Chris wants to room with me, he likes it when I get really drunk then pass out and snore all night
And then I post pictures on the forum for all to see. I think there's a few in the last Arkansas rally if I'm not mistaken. I hope I get to add a few this year.
I'm bringin a bedroll myself (for lack of a backrest on my bike) & I'm not particular about where I sleep, as long as the bed ain't brick hard. Oh yeah....I've been told I snore but it don't bother me much....
Well I guess I'll bunk with the Mystery guess,Not that I'm all that crazy about that idea separate beds of course. I'll be wearing full leather pants for pj's at night, no assless chaps for me because, well just because

Reminds me of the first time I went to the Arkansas Rally and roomed with Rich... One of the nights I woke up at like 3am because he was standing in the outside doorway wide open with nothing but his tidy whiteys on Made me cinch up my covers, it did
I grow up at the drag races, so give me a blankie and a chair, or floor, and I'm golden! If someone is telling tall tales and bedtime stories, sleep may not be required...

Oohhhh, baiting me, are ya? If I had the skills, I'd go back to the original ARK rally posts and tell what really happened! (you know, about all the moaning in the night ya did!)
Just finished my annual "Mystery Ride" yesterday. We had a small ride this year (46 bikes) but it was a good time. I was chosen to lead it so I'm glad it is over. There was a TON of planning and routing involved. The mystery part is that nobody on the ride knows the destination. The road captain plans everything..... The routes, gas stops, lunch stops, evening accomodations, dinner, entertainment. Everything. That was a handful!! So, sorry I haven't gotten back to you Scott. I'll get those routes programed into the GPS. I'm looking forward to a nice relaxing time with you all.
I'm wishing I was already on the road! The bags are packed, the route is etched into my mind, & I'm ready to thunder down some roads perhaps not so well traveled and looking forward to the adventure....anxiously!
It's lookin like a a HOT one, fella's. Today's extended forcast for next weekend is 100 degrees or better! At least it's not rain! (For any rider on a Harley, does that qualify as "shake and bake"?)
Londoners bistro in Genoa has closed down, we'll have to find a different lunch spot for the friday ride. There is the big river inn, in Genoa, or we could find something in Viroqua, or we may just play it by ear.
Compared to the forecasted temps in/around KC for next week it looks like temps (H=95, L=74 thru Friday) will be very pleasant in /around rally central next weekend. I plan to leave KC for Des Moines early in the morning on the 4th to beat the heat. National Weather Service
I washed & waxed Black Beauty today hoping that would bring some much needed rain to the KC area....it hasn't worked so far..... maybe if I washed the truck too???
Ed, I was hoping that things would work out for ya, so you might make it to Westby. I was looking forward to meeting you. Sorry to hear the challenges continue....& hope things will improve for ya.
After a very down day yesterday I think we might have turned a corner today. I'm cautiously optimistic I might see a positive result. Cautiously optimistic.
Quote: After a very down day yesterday I think we might have turned a corner today. I'm cautiously optimistic I might see a positive result. Cautiously optimistic.
Ed, we'll keep the positive vibes coming your way. Hang in there buddy, hopefully things will start to get back to some type of "normal" soon.
Last call. I will be in the Moline, IL/Davenport, IA area Thursday morning. I plan to leave between 9 and 10 (I think) to head to Independence, IA and meet up with the Missouri Wrecking Crew. Anyone else in that area that wants to tag along? I will be away from the internet after today, so call/text me 641 373 4174
If anyone needs to contact me my cell # is 630.335.0602. There is no power at my house right now, but I get internet on my phone, so I should be in pretty good shape.
Make sure everyone is staying well hydrated on the way here and while you are here. Looks like the heat wave is going to continue for the rest of the week and maybe into the weekend. weather alert
If anyone is up for a ride into La Crosse on Thursday evening I would suggest we go to Rudy's Drive In for a burger and a root beer. They were supposed have a Bike Night in Sparta but is got cancelled because of the holiday and the heat but suggested that we come anyways and have our own bike night. Anyone interested let me know and can take a short ride into an authentic 50's Drive-In with Roller Skating Carhops.
Quote: Make sure everyone is staying well hydrated on the way here and while you are here.
Definitely!!! I have opted to remove the cup caddy from the handlebars and ride wearing a 2 liter hydration pack.
I'll be heading out from Des Moines, IA in the early a.m on the 5th bound to meet up with the rest of Missouri crew in Independence, IA for the final leg to Rally Central. I will not have internet access from the 4th on, but you can reach me via my cell: 816-651-5042
Ok guys, the final cost per person is $75. Those of you who paid me $90 at the beginning will be getting some money back. I will send it back to you guys through paypal. Hacksaw and arstaren, i'll give you yours at the rally.
New tires, fresh oil and filter, cables lubed. I am getting antsy, time to ride!. We will be coming out across hwy 60 to the ferry boat across the WI river and then thru various winding, hilly means get to westby. And we are in for the Sparta deal. Sounds fun.

This is the Sparta deal. Might have to get me the Monster Burger at Rudy's... (Triple)
Quote: How about a dumb question. Who is sportin helmets and windshields?
I am seriously thinking about no windshield because of the heat, but I have only used it once anyways.
Helmet wise, I have only used it once as well. Yea, I'm dumb.
I rode without a helmet and windshield for the first twenty years, and the occasional helmet and windshield for the next 12. In my opinion, a windshield is better on a blistering hot day. It keeps the hot air from blastin you, but still allows some air. As far as helmets, I have worn a half shell for a few years now. Really can't stand a full face.

+1 I'll be sportin' my new shield from Clearview (17 inch roadster screen), and wearing a half helmet.....never could get used to a full face one. Don't think I'll be wearing my protective jacket in the heat of the day (but it'll be in my bags).

I put my windshield on for the trip, it's just nicer for a long highway ride, plus riding around out in the country I usually nail a few big bugs. I'm going with the half helmet for the trip, too hot for 3/4 or full.
OK, so I set up some room arrangements for the lodge. I hope everyone finds it reasonable. It is by no means set in stone, so if anyone has any issues please let me know. My #1 focus was the couples, getting them the most privacy as possible. Secondly I tried to group folks together who either already know each other pretty well, or at least are riding in together. Note that I did not put anyone in the caboose, but if someone wants to stay in there, you're welcome to. There is a double bed and 2 twin beds, more like bunks, how the railroad workers used to sleep, so you'll need a sleeping bag or something if you want to stay there. I tried to make it cool for everyone, so it hope this works out. Again, if anyone has any issues, please let me know by PM or call/text me on my cell. So here goes;
Condo #1 first floor
2 Queen Bedrooms Mike57 +1 mikemm03
2 queen sofa sleepers Steve_sixmil Mystery Guest
Condo # 2 second floor
2 Queen Bedrooms Mag10 +1 KaiserSoze
2 queen beds (1 murphy, 1 by fireplace) FastEddy Stacka

I'll be sporting a windshield / helmet. My protective jacket will be packed in the bags. I picked up a protective shirt that is very breathable. I'll be trying that out.
Scott, Give my spot to the Mystery Guest and whomever else needs a spot. I have to cancel my trip. The house AC unit took a dump, needs a $500 part and the wifes jeep needs AC work. This 90+ degree heat in the Midwest is ruining everything. You all enjoy the WI roads, hope to make it next year. Steve_Sixmil
I bought a cooling vest yesterday to wear under my mesh jacket... I tried this combo on in my yard yesterday just to get an idea of how it felt in the heat. It felt pretty darn good. Good thing I have no neighbors with a line of sight to my yard or they would have thought I was crazy.

Truly a bummer, Steve. We feel for ya. Reminds me of what happened last year when I was in DC chaperoning a bunch of kids. Took $300 with me for trinkets and a good time, but the second day I was there, the wife called to tell me her starter went out. Guess how much it was. Brought back all my trip money and a growley stumoch.
Hey Scott. Any water attractions where we're going? I'm usually not a big water person, but this might be one time where I'm not gonna care about my fat belly.

I just talked to Karl. He made it to Des Moines this morning. But, his speedometer drive took a dump on him. I will be meeting him in the morning as we head toward Indy, and meet up with the others.
Quote: If he needs a speedo cable I have one he can borrow, let me know before I leave tomorrow
He asked if I had one, which I do not. I think the drive on the wheel broke, because it spun and pulled his cable.
Karl said go ahead and bring the cable. He is going to tear into it after it cools down tonight. He thinks if the drive is ok, all he will need is a cable and a wire tie. Karl was going to try to call you too.
Yeah, not sure of a water park or anything other than the river. Figures the one year we opt for something other than a hotel with a pool, it's gonna be hot as hell.
Steve- sorry to hear you can't make it. hopefully next year you'll be back in the mix. I figure one of the guys in the twin beds will jump in your spot.
Just finished washin and waxin the bike. Installed the windshield, bags, and pillion. All I need to do is throw a few things in my bag, and strap it to the bike!
It's going to be hot as heck, so be careful peeps. I myself is pretty bad at keeping on top of the fluids. Take your time, make plenty of stops. See ya all tomorrow afternoon. I'm looking forward to a meet and greet, and that '50's drive in!!
Sorry to hear you couldn't make it Steve. I wanted to meet as many guys from the site as possible. Who knows, I might be back some day cos traversing this great country of yours is on my bucket list with my new Tiger.
Thanks to Kaizer for all his arrangements. I've bought him a little pressie from Aus for all his hard work
To all those members who read this before arriving, please take plenty of breaks, lots of fluids and be mindful the heat takes it out of you. Most of us aren't as young as we used to be either
By the way, Eddy and I can't get away until Friday due to Eddy working Thursday night. All the same, it still gives us two nights and a full day which ain't too bad IMHO.
Great pic Mitch. All those Triumphs together are a sight to behold. Hope to be having dinner with you guys tonight but not sure what time Eddy and I will be getting in. Been raining heavily this morning which has delayed our departure. it's clearing up nicely now though.

(Sorry to hear the news, Steve.)
No mesh! Solid leather jacket. Fully zipped up. One, it reduces your loss of water, two, it allows the cooling effect of the vest to last longer, much longer. Three, folks really think you are bonkers.
Here is a link to some of the pics I took over the past couple of days. Thanks to everyone for a great few days of riding. I will be looking forward to doing it again. After following the link it gives you the option of downloading any of them that you would want. Rally Pics of Thursday and Friday
Great rally. We really enjoyed meeting everyone. It's always nice to put a face with a name (and a real name too). And the bikes are even better than pictures. 711 miles door to door.
Glad you made it back in one piece Yota!! I'm home safe and sound as well. Had a great time and it was awesome meeting you all. I'll have pics up in the next couple of days.
I had such a great time! I really wished I had made the first one. That probably would have changed my mind about selling the SM I had at the time.
Great bikes, great rides, great food, and most importantly, truly great people! Thank you so much Scott and Eddy from everything you did for us on this adventure. Thank you Barry for being such a great pack leader. Thank you JR for all the laughs! And a huge thank you to John for visiting our country and joining our group, I think you bringhten up all of our days!!
Enjoy reading this thread from a far away land, as I have fond memories of riding that river valley country on a trusty T 140 from 76 - 79. Dang Justin you weren't even Justin yet
Made it home about 45 minutes ago, around 1350 miles round trip for me. Great weekend with a fantastic group! I'll post up some pics and video eventually.
just got home at about 5:30, I don't have a mileage total, but it was 231 miles home today. Had a great time, it was cool meeting all the new faces, and seeing old friends.
Hi All, I pulled into my driveway @ about 7:30 p.m. yesterday with one very sore arse. I had a great time at the rally and thoroghly enjoyed meeting all of you, and the rides through/in & around lower Wisconson as well. I got to figuring what kind of mileage I added to the clock and near as I kin figure it's in the neighborhood of 1560+ total for the entire trip with and average of 54-55 mpg!

Justin, Thank you for relaying my situation to Dave. Dave, Thanks for bringing a new cable for me to borrow to Rally Central. I'll be ordering a replacement today to send your way. You guys are great!
Got home safe and sound. Peeled of from Dave and Chris but only made it about two miles and stopped to help a "H" rider alongside the road. Cell phone was all he needed as his was dead. Luckily enough, he knew that the resturaunt I was heading for had closed since I was last there. Back tracked a little, and meandered down the Ill. side for a couple of hours. Wis. sure has some beautiful back roads to ride. I really enjoyed those, and combined with all you good people, a fantastic few days in the saddle! Sure hated to come home!
Home safe and sound too. Got home yesterday late afternoon. Had a great time as always and it was great to meet some of the guys I hadn't met yet. All the friendship and 'family' attitude is what makes our group outstanding. Scott, great job again as always. J.R., nice ass dude. Justin, I'm glad everything turned out OK with the law of LaCrosse. Dave, I always enjoy a rally with you, buddy. Awesome steaks too. John, what a pleasure to meet you. Top Bloke. Eddy, thanks for dinner bro! Barry, thanks for leading. Nice job. Jack, great stories and jokes. Always fun. Thanks for a good time to everyone. Too many to thank.
Rolled in around 2:30 Monday. Tn,Ky,Indy,Illinois,Iowa, Wis,Minnesota,6 days, 2,189 miles. 106 degree going up and rained like hell through most of Ill coming back. Man it was a blast,, great to see some old friends and some new friends. Thanks Scott for hosting the rally and welcoming me in. Good setup at the lodge ! As has been said many times before BA people are just good people. Everytime I go to one of these events it has a homecoming sorta feel to it. Great time !
had a blast guys was great to meet all of y'all. was cool to get to watch part of deliverence during the rally. cant wait to get together again. like to give a special thanks to eddy for making it possible to meet me new mate the thunda from down unda aka Stacka & to dungspeed for not having a gag reflex!
Quote: new mate the thunda from down unda aka Stacka
So, if we had a "long distance" award, would John get it? Or does his "flying miles" count? If they do, I want to get credit for the "flying" miles I did with Chris and Dave!
Quote: Looks like I missed a great ride on saturday.
+1, Mitch. On Saturday, the group turned right at the first stop sign, and I turned left. That was sooooooo hard for me to do. Rode with Yota for about the first 10 miles, but even that was too short. Highway 27 to Prairie Du Chien was fun though.

Dammit, Yota. That's HUNGspeed not Dungspeed. How many times I gotta tell ya, boy!
Glad everyone got home safe. We'll do it again next year. I talked to Ruth, and she said we were a great group. If anyone has any ideas of how to improve the lodge, let me know and I'll pass it on to her.

This is an EASY one. All together now fella's. AIR CONDITIONING!!! (yeah, I know, it was an unusual summer for Wis., and she tried.) I'll always remember the angel in the night with the floor fan.
Well I guess I'll come clean with our dirty little secret,Diane and I had a window a/c in our room.Thursday night we like to froze. Great rally guys, see you at the next one
Awww, now that's just dirty Jack. Upstairs it was 86 degrees while we TRIED to sleep. If you'd told us, I bet there would have been 16 people on the floor of your room so it's better you kept quiet . Glad the weather broke and the A/C in the rest of the house could catch up for the last night. Thanks for the stories and the jokes Jack. It's always fun when you're there.
Quote: Some of us found out Friday morning that the caboose was on full freeze out...
So you're sayin that Ruth's Caboose was like a chunk of ice? We were considering seeing how many guys we could cram into Ruth's Caboose at one time, bet that would have knocked the chill off

You guys know Ruth's caboose was wide open. I'm surprised no one decided to throw their stuff all up in that thing.

+1 on the AC, and another +1 for the floor fan angel. Wouldn't have been able to sleep at all without that blessing for sure.
Quote: Some of us found out Friday morning that the caboose was on full freeze out...
Yep, I was tempted to set my gear in there Friday morning. But I figured we'd put it to better use as a party hang out after a long days ride. But by the time we got back if I recall the window unit in the caboose had froze up & wasn't cooling.

Quote: Hey, What ever became of the rally tees....I haven't seen anything posted by Eddy on em....
Eddy...
Guys, maybe I missed something here. Were these freebies or were we supposed to pay for them? If freebies I think the Saturday night dinner may have been a supplement. I think.
I think there was an issue with the supplier, it was going to cost way too much per shirt. Eddy didn't want us to have to pay out the wazoo for a tshirt, so he was trying to find an alternative option. I told him at the rally that if it didn't work out, not to stress too much over it, we could go without shirts this year. He said he was going to try, but I guess it just didn't materialize. No biggie, we'll just have to do it again next year!
