it would still work with the pieman module. The pickup head itself is moved relative to the flywheel. Prior to retarding the timing I had some issues with knock on hot days or with lower octane gas. The idea was suggested by D&D as they had similar issues with their turbo charged bikes.
the picture shows the retarded pick up head.

Interesting. Is it just a case of loosening off the sensor & then moving it over? How do you tell when you are at 8 degrees?

yes and no. it is as simple as moving the sensor over, and no because as it is layed out from the factory the sensor can only be moved about half a degree.
in the previously posted picture (look closely) you can see there is an adapter under the pickup head, that is what is setting the timing.
I can post a drawing of the timing adapter if you wanted to make one up for yourself. or, If you can view acad file I could PM one.

Micah,

I'd appreciate it if you could post a simple drawing of the adapter plate. Probably could go in the tech vault.

drawing of adatper with parts list

drawing of flywheel timing diagram for 270 degree motor/ pick up head.
this adapter should work the same on a 360 motor but I have not tried it.

Ok, so I have bill gatelys brother Steve doing my big bore kit. I am very impressed so far, these guys are triumph alchemists. With the the addition of the air box removal, big bore kit, and bigger front sprocket, I also needed a preformance clutch kit, in that the the new torque output slips the standard clutch at around 4.5 rpm in 4th gear!! Oh yeah, daddy like!
