I just "won" (eBay parlance for "bought" ) a set if chevy605 modded long TORs. (I usually research before hand - but hey - a leap of faith once in a while is good for the soul).
Anyone running/ran these want to give some impressions?
My 19" turnouts are nice - and loud - but after a couple of LONG rides, they're a little too loud for me. (if anyone's interested in them, they'll be going up on the classifieds thread soon).

All I've heard are good things on here about his pipes. Most people say they're louder and deeper than stock but not too loud. Pipes are like seats and oil. It all depends on the individual. I haven't heard a set(I don't think) in person but hopefully someone will chime in here.

Yeah - I find my TORs a little too tame - but my shorty's are way too loud. I'm hoping these are a nice in between.

Hasso, I am running some I had sent to 605 and he modded for me. I like them better than any I had heard. Was running the short TORS. I listened to about every different pipe made for our bikes before choosing.Deep mellow sound but will sound off when u get on the throttle. He is a nice guy, talked to him about 6 times before sending him pipes. I was a pain in the butt being choosy, but hey isn't everyone about their bike? lol I have had good experience with 605 pipes

Thanks! That's pretty much what I'm hoping for. Did you specify anything - or he did them how he wanted to do them? (since these are pre-modded, I get what I get - but I'm hoping he has a standard set up at this point.)

I had sent him the stock long tapered and he cut off the ends right where they taper down. They are pretty well the set up I believe he does with the long tapered stock ones. You can write him, like I said, I asked a bunch of questions and he was very easy to deal with.

I should add I did not specify anything specific so I am sure the internal mods are the standard mod he does.

Hey - I got them a couple of days ago and put them on my 02 TBA. I *really* like the tone. If I'm being 100% honest, I wish they were just a touch louder....but that's a delicate balance - my shorty's were too loud. I am very happy with these pipes!

They are good pipes and he does good work. Cleans up the exterior very well also. I am not sure how many baffles he takes out. Anyone know?

On "long cannons" Don removes most of the tapered ends, completely removes 2 baffles, & drills the remaining 2 baffles.
BTW, "TORS" are "Triumph Off Road Silencers", which are different than "Chevy 605" modded OEM's...

Frankly, no idea. But they have a deeper, richer tone than my stock TORs.
They are also a couple inches longer. (both sets are long TORs. These must be a different year or something.)

Nice bike!
As TORS are open core pipes, I wonder exactly just what Don did to them...
Are any Triumph part numbers stamped on the undersides, or anywhere else, on the pipes?

Here we go - triumph 2202530- which reads out as "triumph silencer"
Though the eBay listing said TORs.
So - not sure if they're the same thing or not - not up on the nomenclature.

Those are late model OEM cat pipes:
T2202540 SILENCER,EXHAUST,CATALYST,RH T2202530 SILENCER,EXHAUST,CATALYST,LH
Not TORS. Somone with actual TORS can verify the TORS part numbers.

Hmm - so I'm back to stock pipes ;-)
Well - they sound better than the TORs. So, there you have it.

They sure do!
IMO, mine are a touch louder than I would optimally like them to be, but all things considered, there are no other pipes I would rather have, especially for what they cost.

Every one knows that Chevy's pipes are modified stockers. Doesn't make them bad.

It was tongue in cheek, friar
(in my defense, they *were* listed as TORs)
I like the sound. Low, rumbly. Not obnoxious. I still lose them in the slipstream a bit in the half helmet. But it's a very good balance of sound/volume. I've done enough damage to my hearing....

Does he still have an ebay account? He might be monitoring that more closely than here.

I'm new to the forums and what's more a little over a month into riding. I just purchased the Chevy605 pipes on eBay and I'm excited to get them... I do have a question that may seem obvious to the experienced individuals I have been reading on the BA forums. He asked for the "core charge" and required a refundable deposit. The problem is I have no idea what the core charge is. Help? :-)

It's a deposit you get back when you send him your pipes. (I think) Ride safe out there.

The "core" is the original mufflers. He uses the mufflers to make another set. If you don't send back a core, he has to find/get another set to do his work on.

Oh ok thanks... What do you think the OEM tapered pipes are worth? I didn't realize I would have to send him them. All well, you live and you learn I suppose. Still would rather have the new pipes since I have heard nothing but good things.
