Exhaust Extensions
      #551804 - 03/08/12 09:21 PM

So, I have looking for what seems to be like forever for something to extend out my pipes, something that will go between the header and the exhaust pipe so I can extend the fishtail to at least the back of the rear tire. I've checked endlessly online and local muffler shops with no luck until now. I ordered a pair of these yesterday from ebay. Hopefully they'll work out well. After I get them installed, I'll post pics.

Perfect!

You must not corner very hard...

Ask Zdenko how long pipes handle in the corners (although I think his bike was lowered at the time). It ain't about width.

I know, but once I went from short TORs to something longer, I tore meat off those pipes without even trying. Mind you, I live in the land of twisties where I love riding hard (especially while being chased by Friar and the bunch). Long pipes = grind time if you corner even somewhat spiritedly. I'm considering a way of pointing my long pipes upward a bit just to avoid the disintegration of dearly paid for steel and chrome.

The first year I went to Nelson it was lowered... scrapped the living snot outta those pipes that year.
I still scrape now but thats cause Im a fatass and I, like Keith previously stated, have learned to enjoy the corners in a spirited manner thanks to a few that shall not be named (JOHN and JOHN and me too).

Longer pipes will scrape too. Soren, your lighter than John or I so you might be ok. Think about it tho... you look at your bike as it sits and your pipes are even with the ground. You sit on your bike and it squats down a bit. That lithe squat is what will make you scrape around corners.

Keith has the right idea with trying to get the pipes a little higher.

I did learn a couple tricks last year when I took my cornering class... the average rider, when entering a corner, tends to throttle up a bit which causes the rear end to squat. You need to try and reverse that squatting action by one of two methods...
1 - ideally... you learn to have the bike at speed to enter the corner.
2 - (CAUTION, this one is not for the faint of heart or the mildly touched in the head) a slight tap on the froth brake will make the bike squat at the front causing the rear to come up a bit.

post before and after pics... It might be kinda cool to see my pipes stick out past the rear fender.

unless is wet outside i am almost always on the brake a slight bit to transfer weight from the back to the front of the bike, only takes a very slight tap and you need to be very aware of what the surface is like, hard in , sweeping apex, slight tap beginning of apex and roll of the back.
