The pipes on my new-to-me America are just too loud... my ears are ringing. The pipes OD is 3" with little taper on the muffler section. The ID is about 2 7/8". I think the head pipes with heat shields are stock as there is a crossover between the head pipes. There is a reduction inside the muffler about 8 to 10 inches in; hard to measure exactly as they are slash cut but the reduction appears to be roughly 2". There is a hole in the muffler where a baffle once lived. There is no heat shield on the muffler part. I suspect the baffle was 8" or so. Anyone have an idea what type mufflers I own? Where can I buy some quiet baffles. HardKrome sells 3" baffles and I am not sure if that means they fit 3" OD or ID; I will check with them.

Epco's are one of the loudest aftermarket pipes out there. You could buy a less loud type and sell the Epco's on here to offset the cost. TORs (Triumph Off Road) are a little louder than stock, but not too loud. There is a loudness comparison somewhere on here between different mufflers, I think. I think that stuffing an aftermarket baffle into your Epco's would be more trouble than it would be worth, and hard to get right.

And you can get extra baffles from Team Triumph in Wisconsin
http://www.rideteamtriumph.com/america_&_speedmaster.htm
The Silver inserts will quiet them down a ton. I have Gold on mine after riding for years with only the stock baffles. You will know they are Scepters if they have a serial number on the inside behind the welded on mounting bracket

I am old. I like peace and quiet. I already own bikes that are much faster and they are quiet too. There is a reason there are different types of pipes; something for everyone I guess.

If you seek a quiet bike, Sceptres seem like the wrong direction?

Thanks for the insight. I already OWN Sceptres and am going to check on baffles; it seems it might cost less to use what I have with baffles than find stock mufflers.

I would consider a trade stock pipes for what you have.

Since the stock pipes can be had for around $200 (or less) shipped via eBay or otherwise and the Spectre pipes go for $650 new and mine are in very nice condition, you will have to make me a deal involving a bit of cash. I have already had a couple guys nibbling. Take this to PM if you are really interested. If I go for stock pipes, they will have to be in good condition and have all the innards intact. Thanks - wg

I have Stainless Ride which I believe use to be Epco, the pipe slash is facing the wrong way to be Epco if they kept the same design. I will say that mine are loud but no complaints.

I still say Scepters, The Epco seems to have a less pronou8nced taper at the header end.

There is a number on the inside of the black mount; mine were Z42 (I think that is what it said as it is hard to tell the zed from the two)

Anybody with a set of Sceptres have a number on the inside of their mount brackets... the actual number seemed to be Z42 L on the left bracket. I suspect the L was for left.

I will happily trade stock pipes off my 2010 America for those... Assuming they will work with EFI etc?

What? I can't hear you over the ringing in my ears! Here is a picture of mine. Don't know what they are. They are straight cut and loud. I like the way they sound and I have been told by V-Twin owners that they wished their bike sounded like mine!

I now have stock mufflers on my BA and am very happy to have it that way. I don't care for loud pipes anymore; I outgrew that stage in my life. I have been riding for longer and owned more bikes than most and I suppose that it isn't cool to like quiet bikes but I am not cool.. I am me.
