If the dogs chase bikes they'll chase cars and trucks. Just go back in your cage and nail one. The others will either learn to stay out of the way or not. If not, go back a get another one and another till the problem is eliminated.

I live in a rural area and see dogs all the time. Most chase cars but stay in their yard while doing so but don't get into the road. Those that get into the road don't usually live past the first birthday around here. I've nearly wrecked before because some people would rather cause a wreck than run over an animal that darts into the road. Obviously, I don't want to hit any larger animals on my bike (having already nearly died because of a deer) but most dogs around here who wander throughout the neighborhood make an effort to stay out of the way of traffic. The chasers stay in the boundary of their yards. But thats rural life. I guess them city dogs approach life differently than do country dogs.

Please be careful everyone. It hurts worse and longer than it used to.

I've been on both sides of this issue. Back in HS, I was attacked by a dog - from above! I was on the lower level of a road under construction and the dog was on the top level and jumped, latched onto my leg and wouldn't let go. Never saw that one coming! I've also had my dog(s) hit by cars in front of my house. Dogs that I thought never went into the road. My Cairn decided to hit the streets after I went to work (night shift). I never knew that he climbed the fence to get out. Later, I found out that he did it regularly. My Keeshond was with me in the front yard and a girl walked by. She looked very much like my wife, who had just gone inside to get some tea. The girl bent down and called to the dog - who thinking it was my wife - ran to her. Then the dumb B crossed to the other side of the street and the dog followed her - right in front of a VW van. Lastly, our blind neighbor left our gate open and our Black Lab walked right out and was hit by a Lexus. Fortunately, her collar caught on the bumper and she wasn't run over. She did lose a tooth and punctured a lung. This was over A 25+ year period and fortunately all 3 dogs survived (with some serious medical bills) and went on to lead long, healthy lives. But I learned that, no matter how well trained, I can never trust a dog to always stay in his yard. A shame really, but a reality nonetheless.

Now CATS are a different story. They're much smarter...

Well dog my cats said Babba Fats *

At least sometimes dogs will stop and make a good faith attempt to yield to cars , cats will just rip on across a road much like a ..........skwerl .

* an obscure poem . Google it .

Wade was talking poetry, which (in the context of a 'dog' thread) reminded me of a favourite line from Bob Dylan...

"If dogs run free, why not me
Across the swamp of time?"

Are "loose dogs" so named due to a lapse of moral convictions , or are they simply "free range" animals ?

I need to know these things to satiate the thirst of knowledge .

Wade you are the intrepid forerunner of asterisk * popularity.

That's 'cause most of us around here have securely packed all of our asterisks away in bubble wrap, Wade!

(...so, what do you use YOUR bubble warp for, ol' buddy???)
