Can anyone tell me which of the Triumph valve springs are the ones used for the hotter cams? I want to swap mine out now that I have the head all apart in anticipation of camming next year and don't want to have to pull the entire head again.

I called my Dealership in Pensacola, I was told that when they installed the stage 1 cams (before I had even bought my bike), they retained the Factory Valve Springs. It was their opinion (you know how that goes) that that particular cam grind is mild enough that it shouldn't require higher-compression valve springs, while retaining the 8000 RPM Rev Limit. I do have to say that as hard as I run that engine sometimes, I've never experienced what I could call Valve Float. Also, in my admittedly scant internet search, I haven't yet found someone (at least on the net) who provides valve springs for these bikes.

Scroll down a tad, and there are the cams, I used to have the lift and duration specs in my profile in the old BA.com forum :-) I remember when the dealer gave them to me, they didn't seem too extreme, so I equated them with the stage I cams listed on this webpage.

You may want to try this place for springs if thats what you want. Black diamond valves. They make springs for the triples and may be able to come up with something for our application.

Boy it would be really nice if Titanium Valve retainers and keepers were available for these bikes, talk about a light valve train!!

Call Megacycle Cams and they can give you all sorts of specs. The cams for our bikes can be re-done by them for $560. They are the ones I am looking at doing my cams next year. They used to do the South Bay Moto cams for them but have since stopped doing business with them for some reason.
I was told that Matt Capri at South Bay Triumph uses either the Daytona or the S3 springs for their stage I cam setups. That is what I was looking to find out, exactly which ones they use. I guess a phone call is in order.
Yesterday I dropped my heads off at a local speed shop and they are going to port and polish and flow test them for me for $100. The owner was all excited to do it for me as he does a ton of the Old Trumps for racers and hasn't seen any of the new ones until yesterday. He says he will do any machine/speed work I need for a substantially reduced price if I spread the word about him. Gotta see how he does and if it's good, as I suspect it will be, I will let everyone know.

OK, I'm replying to my own post. I just got off the phone with Matt at South Bay and he tells me that the stock springs are more than adequet for anything I ever want to do to this motor, short of completely replacing the valve train. An odd thing was that he also told me that the Wiseco big bore kits don't do much at all for our bikes as they do not have enough compression to be of any real use. Huh?? I guess that since he sells his own "only big bore and cams that work" kits he will say the others are not any good. I don't know, but it doesn't make much sense to me. He also tells me that Megacycle has never done any Triumph cams before and I should stick with his cams that are proven to be the only ones that work. That totally contradicts what they told me at Megacycle. Now my brain hurts again.

Hi, I might tend to agree with the Southbay Guy, at least in regards to the Milder cams, but it definitely wouldn't hurt if the profiles start getting a little radical. I would throw the BS flag regarding the comments about other big bore kits and CR; since most of the 904cc (or thereabouts) displacement big bore kits advertise a new CR of around 10.5 to 1, that whole point raise by itself should be good for more power, not even counting the increase in cylinder displacement. Besides, would we really want to go that high with CR on air-cooled engines?? 10.5 to 1 would seem to be about the sensible limit, at least IMHO. I'll call the dealership in Pensacola where I bought my Speedmaster and inquire about their source for the cams, now I'm curious
