The EPA finally signed off on an Arizona law that was passed over a year ago, so now those of us in the Tucson area don't have to get our bikes emission tested. azstarnet.com article
Up to this point though I haven't had to get my bike tested since it was only done on bikes that were at least 5 years old, but I wasn't looking forward to it since I've done a Freak job on my bike.
I think now the only place you have to get your bike emissions tested in the US is in the Phoenix area.

I had heard this rumor floating around yesterday from a friend who owns a modified Harley Nighttrain. I am glad to see this.
Thanks for posting the article.

That's good news. I wonder how strict they were. Would your bike pass if it's tuned well? Are cars still tested? Here in NM I understand they make you test cars and pickups, but not motorcycles.

CT has shoved the emissions program for cars up our tookies for quite a while now. We haven't had to do bikes though. The program was shut down for being corrupt and inept a few times, and is now back in the groove.
The whole process is absurd, in order to catch a very few people who usually can't afford late model cars and pricey repairs anyway. So in affect, the overwhelming majority of the cars pass, and a few poor folks get scorched -- your tax dollars at work...

Cars are still tested statewide. New vehicles get a pass for a number of years and historic vehicles and those that are a particualar number of years old also dont have to go thru emissions.

Actually, I think its only the Tucson and Phoenix metro areas (Pima and Maricopa counties) that test annually. There is no testing up here in the north. And there wasn't any when I lived in Pinetop either. Just one more reason I like living out of the big metro areas!!! Becky

I liked the old system, a $50 dollar bill in the ashtray, and you passed.

No bike emissions test in Pa. yet. In the county where I live, if you don't exceed 5000 miles per year on your car or truck you get an exemption from e-testing as well. I've gotten that exemption for the last 3 years, since I've had my TA. Still have to pay $5 for the damm exemption sticker though.....

No emissions test on bikes in NJ, either. But they may moan about loud pipes, at the apparent disgression of whoever is doing the inspection. By law you dont need turn signals tho. aint life grand G
