Valve Adjustment complete....with leftover shims
      #37163 - 07/25/05 08:35 PM

Hey Boy's and Girl's I have finished my valve adjustment and have 5 availiable shims leftover if someone needs them. The shims are:: 2X 2.84mm, 2.81mm, 2.71mm, 2.74mm.
They are in excellent shape just PM me if you need any of these sizes.
Thanks again Pat for all the information and the dinkalator the whole job went off without a hitch. If any of you Guy's or Gal's in the DFW area even further out need someone to run your valves and complete the job just give me a shout. Tmax

Tmax,

First off, THANKS!
However, the shims increment by .025mm starting at 2.00mm and ending at 3.20mm. The ranges for the sizes you have are:
2.700
2.725
2.750
2.775
2.800
2.825
2.850

How did you determine the thickness’ of them?

I'll bookmark this thread as I'll want to know who has what available! Thanks for your generous offer and I trust those that need shims will avail themselves of your offer.

Wouldn’t it be nice if a moderator could mark this as a sticky thread with a heading of Shims available? It would serve as a working inventory of shims available, and could be edited by a moderator much like wojo edits the classifieds.

Benny,

It really depends on the dealer, but the shims are about 9 bucks give or take a buck or so.

Most excellent observation Moe. I used a digital caliper in the mm mode which wont show 1/2 thousands mm. I also used a digital micrometer in inches and converted to mm for confirmation. The slight differences are most likely due to slight wear. Since you brought this to my attention I am going to re-measure and list them as the nearest stock equivelent. I listed the exact reading on my caliper and I see how that could cause some confusion. Thanks for the heads up. Tmax
ps. I ordered the shims from Palm Beach Triumph @ $6.03 ea. Fast service & trouble free.

The guys at the Triumph motorcycle club on yahoo tell me that Triumph uses 25mm diameter shims....Honda and Yamaha use the same size shim....I guess there's a Triumph/Honda dealer and the mechanic told one guy they were the same....so he bought a triumph and three honda shims and said they were the same...I've read the thunderbird has 25mm shims....what about the ba/sm?...anybody know?

Tmax,
DO NOT round the sizes you measured. List the exact size they are. This is better so exact final clearences can be calculated. I would have preferred being bale to buy a 2.713 when I did mine. You can also use the Dinkalator (hey, I like the name, thanks) to convert the inches to mm or vice versa.
