I found me an old (1989) John Deere with a 17hp Kawasaki. The thing just refuses to die, and when it does, everything including cylinder sleeves is replaceable/serviceable.

same here, I bought one from a neighbor for $300 cause it would not spin the blades. I gave him $300 and gave the tractor a swift kick on the deck and zooooom, the blades started spinning. The neighbor put his hands on his hips and said, "well, I'll be darned, the JD dealer told me $800 to fix, but hey, a deals a deal". It's been running strong ever since and I will own nothing but JDs from now on.

Highly recommended, as is a Nitrous kit.

All back together...and ....VROOOMMMM!!!!! YEEHA!!! $53.00 worth of parts ($40.00 of it for a magneto I didn't need!) and she fired right up!!!
as a side note...the Cylinder walls looked GREAT especially for a 6 YO machine which gets sporadic care!
