This is not a call for help but rather just to point out that for me, the flashing envelope doesn't necessarily occur when I have pms. Roughly half the time I find out by randomly checking or receiving a notice in my email.
I used to have an issue where the envelope was there but didn't show up... so if I clicked where the envelope should be I still go to the PMs. Hasn't happened in quite a while.
