Calling all SS owners. I have mine apart now in an effort to find out why they are so friggin' loud compared to other SS pipes I've heard. Here's what I found inside...

The baffle is about 16" long. Is this the same as what others have in their SS pipes? Z, you've had yours out... is this the same set up as yours? And I'm wondering if that unwrapped bit at the end is the culprit causing my pipes to shatter nerves!

Would appreciate any feedback anyone can offer.

Haven't had mine apart, Keith, BUT that little bit at the end unwrapped looks like it might be enough to raise the Db's. Now you've got me wondering about mine and how much they are wrapped. Not that I've EVER been accused of being "wrapped to tight".

Did you pull both pipes apart, Keith? Just wondering if the other pipe is wrapped the same way...

Mine are wrapped all the way and Id say yes, that little bit at the end is enough to make them loud.

Yup, Chris... I pulled both apart and BOTH were identically wrapped.

Well, your report pretty much nails the problem I should think. And your babbles are the same length as mine... 16" or so?

Makes me wonder why... why would Dale not wrap the whole thing.

Thanks Eddy... still trying to 'wrap' my head around why mine are the way they are.

Wrapping the perforated tube (it's not a baffle) all the way will help deaden the sound. If that's not enough you could cut the perf tube off where it is welded to each end and rotate it (and re-weld) so that the louvers face towards the gas flow - that is so they will intake the gas flow much more effectively. That should make a significant difference.
