I bought my 07 BA back in February and the tail light length bugged me....they stuck too far out from the rear fender. So, I bought a 07 Speedy tail light assy from Trimoto07 awhile back (Thanks again Jason :0) . and set to paring them down to swap with the stock lights.
My aim was to pare both posts down on the bracket mounted end by 2 inches in overall length a maintain the stock thread so I could use the existing hardware.
Some quick process notes on the machining operations: 1) To remove the wiring from the posts one must cut the connectors at the bulb end. (Save the connectors for the final installation). 2) The tail light nacelles have lock tite applied to the threads of the posts...apply some heat with a heat gun to remove them from the posts. 3) Before cutting/turning operations put masking tape around the posts where they are to be a) cut down to shorten overall length, and b) at the stopping point of the post end to be turned that will shoulder the against the fender mount bracket after the threads have been cut onto the turned end. (This helps prevent the chrome from flaking off during the machining process)
Beginning overall dims are: Length = 4.61 inches, Post Length between treaded ends = 3.343 inches Post OD = .625 inches Post to Bracket Threaded End OD = .393 inches w/threaded length = .75 inches Post to Bracket End Thread = M10x1.25
Ending overall dims are: New Length = 2.61 inches New Post Length between threaded ends = 1.343 inches All other dims remained the same
Installation was pretty straight forward…remove the stock lamp & bracket assy and replace with the modified assy.
Here’s a comparison of the stock BA rear turn signal assy and the modified 07 Speedy assy mounted:
I cut about 7 inches of excess wire from both sides of harness in the installation process before soldering the bulb connectors back onto the wires. Then I covered the soldered butt splices with shrink tube before reconnecting the bulb receptacles. Here’s a pic of the trimmed connector ends & the soldered connector ends (RH shown, LH same):
Finally a comparison view from above of the stock BA rear turn signal assy and the modded 07 Speedy assy as mounted:
I am very pleased with the modified rear turn signal assy. It really cleans up the rear profile of my 07 BA. Thanks again to Trimoto07 for the Speedy turn signal assy. Next mod???? Maybe a triple light bar up front with visors???? Maybe some ISO foot boards or pegs for both rider & passenger????

Thanks for the link to British Customs' site. Figuring up the math for what they had to do a similar mod = $43.09 for the turn signals (w/pivot mounts), $17.95 for a set on the 10mm spacers, + estimate of $9.00 parcel post shipping = $70.85. My savings = $1.85 in comparison. (not including the shared with my riding buddies while machining the posts)
The real difference I can see is that the BC equipment as shown aren't: A) a solid post arrangement from the turn signals to the fender mounting bracket (vibration + piece meal installation = bad stuff) & B) The turn signals BC offers have pivoting/adjustable posts (another spot that could be prone to loosening up from vibration). But go figure...I'm sure one might find similar tail lights w/o the pivot/adjustable posts.
Either way it breaks cost-wise about the same. The real reward is in DYI don't cha know

Oh!....I forgot to add, I can still say the tail lights are modified Triumph manufactured, instead of "aftermarket".

Well I dun it now & will have ta go the whole 9 yards with the cycle stylin mods. I got a set of the wide profile Kuryakin ISO rider pegs on the BA today & they look GREAT, and match my grips.
Took the scoot out for an hours ride to get the feel of the new pegs and I am LOVING EM! They give my ride a bit wider rider seating position AND support my arches and relieve the stress on my achillese!
Next will be the kuyakin passengers pegs, foot brake and shifter covers, and then onto setting up a light bar up front instead of the single headlamp. I also wanna change the handlebars to some that rise about halfway between the stock bars and the mini/low apes on the girl now. And who knows...maybe new/custom paint for the fenders & tank this winter too??????? (Black gloss w/a silver spiderweb wrapping the tank from the control panel/gas cap back toward the rear of the tank & down the sides????)
Pics will follow as the dress-ups continue.
