I did a search, but I couldn't find anything on swapping a 2008 EFI tank with an older carb'd tank. My 08 is carb'd, but has the EFI tank as the US models got the larger tank but didn't transition to EFI until a year after the British models.
All that being said, I picked up an 06 tank and figured it shoudl slide right on...but I am about 1/4' or so too far rearward to get the bolt to line up. Is there something onvious I am overlooking, or do I need o modify the mounting cups on the tank so it slides forward a tad more. Anyone have any experience with this?

can you post a pic of the underside of the old tank?
Im wondering if the mounting is different but it shouldn't be. Are those rubber things aligned or maybe something is preventing you from sliding it all the way back.

My '08 America (carbed, large tank) has 2 plastic deflectors (for moisture diversion?)mounted L&R on the frame gussets, just ahead of the coils, could this be the source of the interference? The '08 tank frame tunnel is huge as to the older tanks.

I measured the distance from the mounting "cups" to the bolt hole.....
Carb (06) tank - 17 7/8" EFI (08) tank - 17 1/2"
3/8 of an inch off...hmm...I was going to get some work done on the tank anyway (kinda like Friar John's unfinished tank project...off center flush mount fill cap and cover up the tank bezel detent) so I guess I'll have to have the mounting cups moved back 3/8".
So heads up for anyone with a carb'd 08 that wants to swap out the tank for the "much cooler" pre-efi tank...it's not plug-n-play.

Isn't there a fuel pump in the EFi tanks? If so, what are doing about that?

The 08 is an odd year...the British version was released with Electronic Fuel Injection, while the US model was still carburated. However, the US model was fitted with the same tank as the British model, minus the pump. Soooo....an EFI style tank with no fuel pump mounted to a carburated model...and an ugly tank at that.

Sorry I missed this post but I have a older tank on my 08 fit right on had to shave the rubber mounting cup a little but I have been using it for a couple of years now no problems. I didn't relocate anything just put it on. You could probably even order the mounting cup things from a older bike and it would even be easier.

My first thought was to get out the razor blade and shave the back of the rubber mounts off. Perhaps that is the easiest thing to do and I should stop being so anal about the whole mess...lol.

Mine is a 08' also and it worked....did do some shaving on the rubber mounts and I made a cover to hide the mounting bolt on the back side with my bobber seat.
