Six years ago I decided to try a different kind of bike, a cruiser. After looking at everything, realizing most stuff was Crap, I narrowed it down to two bikes: a Moto Guzzi Jackel & a Triumph Speedmaster. As luck would have it, the Guzzi was sold the day before I called, & the Triumph was a Home Run. It was in Steelers colors, so I called him Steelheart. 50,000 miles have just tripped over on the odometer. This is what I have used:
1515 gallons of gas (33mpg with My heavy hand)
56 quarts of oil (synthetic)
13 oil filters (12 oil changes + the original)
9 rear tires
4 front tires
6 chains (during my Super-broke time I used cheapo chains)
3 sets of sprockets
3 CDI/Ignitors (1.original, 2.used from Pinwall, 3.Procom- second one ever sold, first one installed)
3 Starter solenoids (for some reason, the first two corroded, third one is doing fine)
2 Front wheel bearings
4 Heavy duty clutch springs
1 Rear brake line (crash damage)
2 Throttle cables (crash damage)
2 Turn signals (crash damage)
For some reason, I never wrote down when I changed brake pads, so this is close, not exact:
6 sets of Rear brake pads
10 sets of Front brake pads (it's a Speedy, twin fronts)
Mods: The first thing I did was to rotate the handlebars down so they just barely clear the tank on full lock. It straightens my wrists out & makes it more comfortable.
JC Whitney 16" shorty mufflers
Rejet 140 mains- Drilled airbox- Unifilter- disconnected Air Injection
Plugged crossover tube- wrapped exhaust- painted w/ flat black grill paint
And I also bought the Triumph Touring seat, put it on whenever I take my Wife for a ride, otherwise I use the stock Gunfighter seat.
So, in case you haven't guessed:
I LOVE MY TRUMPET!!!
Speed Safe.

Nice little report there Brian. It gives us riders with lesser miles an indication of the type of maintenance we're likely to encounter in future. Great to hear you're still liking your ride. One thing I would be and I'm sure other readers would be interested in is did you or a dealer perform the trickier stuff like shim replacements? Ride safe John Quinnell

"3 CDI/Ignitors..."
Ah yes, our Achilles' heel.
After four plus decades of owning many, many motorcycles, THIS is the ONLY item NOT FOUND on ANY of the others maintenance logs.
Oh well, all things considered...

The 9 rear tires is testament to the heavy throttle hand!

9 rear tires are cheaper than Psychotherapy. The valves were done at about 25,000 miles by a bike shop (not the dealer). All valves needed adjustment, but with swapping the shims around, only 5 new shims were needed.

10% of the retail value of the bike in electrics in 50K miles.
Yep, great bikes but for that

I bought it in June '06 with 1800 miles on it. I'm the 3rd owner. It went from Garage Queen to Road Warrior!
