Might as well hit the parts store and buy some hi temp sealer (permatex RTV) and spread some inside the silencer inlet to insure a good seal. If you over tighten the clamp you risk denting the pipe or tearing the clamp...seems like the torque value is around 20ftlbs but you sould check me to make certain. That, and you can open the mix screws 1/4 turn or so and see how that works for you. Tiny changes, one change at a time so you'll know what works.
