I read somewhere on their site how they did the original conversion. In a nut shell, they plugged the inside of the down tubes at both ends, added a crossover, cleaned them inside, welded in threaded bungs for the line attachments, and bingo, it's done.
Some, IF not the largest factor in the reduced engine temp's is from more/better air flow/cooling directed directly at the hottest part of the engine, the area between the cylinders on the exhaust side, and not being blocked by the obstruction the factory put there. (the OEM cooler)
This you can do yourself, with a fair deal of work/time, OR you could get the same affect by purchasing the aftermarket finned alum. tubes like Dave and others have.
IF your going to the trouble of doing the true oil in frame route, why not weld on some washers to the frame tubes to create the cooling fin heat sinks.
(You'll NEVER get Dwights approval if you don't!)

for $750, you can buy two sets of aluminum coolers from bonnevilleperformance.com and still have a hundred bucks left over

Triumph already tried the oil-in-frame concept once...it didn't work out very well. I am glad the oil cooler is a part that can be taken off and worked on if need be.

Actually those frame segments that are to be plugged and bunged change out easy enough and the best part is Pinwall charges only $14.95 a side + ship. I did a volumn check and the gain is close to .750 of a liter in oil capacity over the stock heat exchanger. Nothing in resemblance to the old poorly welded OIF tanks Triumph foisted upon the masses back in (1970 ?) Speedmaster states they can run their street trackers in temp.parameters, the detuned dogs we ride, should run cool enough with the extra oil. Pre-Apology to all who feel or just know, they do not run/ride detuned dogs.

I can see the function of it but I'm not sold on it. I will keep functioning items segregated from the frame itself if for no other reason than the fact I can take it apart and work on it. I don't think my oil cooler is an eye sore but I'm probably used to it by now and don't even pay attention to it.

I ran hot with the aluminum oil coolers, but your results may vary... I saw the frame thing in a magazine too, it looks pretty cool! How much different are the down-tubes between the two bikes anyway?
