I've been to both Venices, Mac. In fact, I used to live about 12 miles from the California one. And trust me, the one in Italy is FAR more "magical" a place than the one just south of Santa Monica. 
(...though I DO have to admit there were no chainsaw jugglers to be found anywhere in the Venice located along the Adriatic!)
