Just picked up a running Fairbanks Morse hit and miss engine. Excellent compression,extremely good shape except the governor Has some parts missing. Has great compression, starts easily, and runs well. It isn't a true hit and miss, it's throttle governed the exhaust valve is not held open. The governor controls the mixer instead. It also is an early sealed crank case model. No oilers, it has oil in an enclosed crankcase and an oil slinger. Painted nice too, not rusty. I am making a new cart for it. Also bought a sandblasting cabinet cheap that was never used and I am in the process of making upgrades on.

When did you know cant ride any longer?

Well I can't ride the America any longer or until my left hip stops hurting, it hurts all the time.
I don't want to chance my hip and leg going out from under me when I park.
I'm 69 with both hips replaced.
Rig, hip in June 2008, left hip in July 2019.
its the left hip that cant bear much weight.
Due to the pain I can't walk 1/4 miles.

Nobby Passed Away.

A member of the site from the early days, Shaun Jones from England, passed away yesterday from severe medical issues.
I was called today from Martyn and he and Funkletrumpet (Ady) asked I make this post.
I believe Shaun made a trip here in the early 2000s .
I was privileged to meet him at two Euro Rallies.
A good friend he will be missed. The Euro Group lost a good brother.
Rest easy Shaun.

Change the filter or just change the oil and filter

I have a small problem with over-filling the oil.
I have three choices the oil is just under the top of the sight glass.
Just keep riding the America and the oil will burn off.
Undo the oil filter and let some oil out clean the filter and engine where the filter fits.
Put that oil filter back onto the engine.
Change the oil and filter it's 1,400 miles until next scheduled oil & filter change.
Suggestions?
