We have made significant progress the last few days in collecting vital information, gaining control of stuff and generally rocking the world! Okay not really, but at least we have a better handle on things. When we lost the porbeagle server, wow, that was a nervous moment in time! Our first test so to say. Yet even then, the procedures to correct that problem were all on Dreamhost. We did loose a bit of information when the data base was restored: some post that had occurred between the time of the lost server and the last backup Dreamhost had made. Nothing older than a day or so. We are still looking seriously at migrating away from the UBB boards onto those of vBulletin. By year end?
The loss of John Bedard has hit us all hard. John wanted us to continue and we shall! The software upgrade to the forums is still in the works. However, the current forum software is doing fine so we are going to take things slow and easy as we work to implement the vBulletin software. We’d like to resume featured members rides, as well as trying to bring the blog (homepage) back to an active status.
We’re going to continue the hiatus we’ve been enjoying on the blog (homepage) since the holidays as we prepare for a software upgrade to the forums. There is a module with that forum package that may end up replacing WordPress as our homepage content management system. No need to make more work for ourselves. We hope that the transition be as painless as possible, and that we’ll be able to import not only the forum content but the WordPress homepage content.
As always we appreciation your patience.
Forum Moderator Chy Adams has written a beautiful tribute for Larry Sheppard (LarryShep), a beloved member of this site since the beginning, who died recently after succumbing to injuries suffered during a motorcycle accident. We’ve published Chy’s memorial, along with a few photos, in the In Memoriam section.
I’m going to be disabling most of the functionality of the homepage (WordPress) to attempt to track down a bit of code that I think one of the plug-ins is inserting at the top of the page. This code seems innocuous but it’s causing a virus warning to appear occasionally. All of the core content (posts and pages) should remain available.
